One of my "funny now, but major trauma back then" events happened when I was 12 yrs old. My friend Denise was spending the night on a Saturday, and everyone had gone to bed. We were chatting away in the dark in my second story bedroom, when we heard a noise at the window. We listened for a minute, and heard it again!
"What is that?"
"Is it a bat?"
"I'm scared!"
I ran to my parents room and woke up my dad. I told him about the noise at the window, and that we were scared. He got up, walked to my room, opened the window, stuck his head out, and yelled, "Get outta here!"
It was the boy I had just shared my first kiss with earlier that day!

Why that little peeping tom! This is so funny. I had a similar experience at about the same age hearing a noise outside. Turned out to be a cat.
