I didn't know clicking the ads got you points, I try to avoid clicking the ads. I gues I will start clicking ads. Thanks!

Carol,

Some of the information in this post is incorrect...in fact, clicking on ads you have no legitimate interest in will actually harm Gather and ultimately the points system.

If an advertiser feels that they are not generating genuine hits from advertising here, they can pull their ad, which is a loss of potential income for Gather.

yeah, I was gonna say, but Kevin already did,( I think I actually had read it from him before, awhile back when he left a comment on an articke) but anyway the add clicks don't get you points. I think it is actually against TOS to just click on all the adds to try and get points. I may be wrong about that, but I thought I read that somewhere too...

I've been a member for years. I still haven't quite figured out how I get the points.
Nor can I figure out how to get "traffic" to my postings. I just take it as it is... it's fun no matter what.

I think everyone has a different idea about how points are gained. Who really knows. I'll have to try the ad thing though.

I read about clicking on ads from Gather's introduction. I am not advocating randomly clicking on ads to get points. I only click on ads I'm interested and the same with commenting.

Thank you for the clarification...but your post is not worded this way. Your post makes a clear connection between clicking ads and getting points, which is NOT the case. If members heed your words above (or in your duplicate post), they can actually end up REDUCING points available to members long-term.

I had a convcersation with a friend who has put up a website. He's using a pay per click on the ads on his site. I told him that I have, never, in all the years I've surfed the Internet clicked on an ad from an advertiser on a webpage. I might have done it inadvertently, at one point or another, but never puposely. Of course, I'm not a good example.

Funny how people seem to read the article and not the comments . Several people have stated clicking just for the sake of clicking on ads is bad !! It some cases it is fraud . So only click if you are really interested in the ad. I would not even hazard a guess as to what earns points these days . I am not sure that any two members have the same opinion on what contributes to them. And it seems so un-cool to talk about earning them anyhow. I am trying to get back in to Gather but some times wonder if it is worth the effort. That remains to be seen I guess.

What KEvin & AManda said, IF you do not have an interest in the ads do not click . not only is it against the TOS it will harm Gather ultimately as KEvin stated.
