Most of the TV we watch has been recorded so we skip the commercials. I've decided that's good on more levels than I knew. While watching live TV, I've twice seen a cell phone commercial that truly offends the dog lover in me.
The couple have been married for 38 years and the man has named 11 bulldogs Steve. Now that means that each bulldog averaged lasting only about 3 1/2 years. They are short-lived dogs, but should be averaging about 8 years.. I don't think the commercial wants us to think the couple doesn't take care of the dogs, but that's the result for me.
One of the things we did when I volunteered for the Humane Society adopt-a-pets was make sure that each potential adoptive applicant understood that having a pet was a long term commitment. We ran into several people who thought cats only lived 2-3 years. We told people to assume they'd have their cat for 20 years. While it may be shorter or longer, having a pet is not a two or three year affair.

How do you know they didn't have several bulldogs named Steve at the same time? The couple depicted in the commercial seem nutty enough to do that. They could have 3 or 4 dogs at once! Maybe they were together before they got married and had other bulldogs before their marriage. If you listen closely, the wife says "you've had 11 bulldogs..." Maybe he had bulldogs before he even met his wife!
Stop looking so much into it. It's a commercial. That's all. I highly doubt the advertisers purposely did that.
