Thanks to my dearest Sestryonka (Sandi S.) for the inspiration…
Who was that guy
Born on the very brink of Oikumena,
Far from the fussy noisy cities
With their politicians, scholars and litigators?
Who was that guy
Whose father’s name was unknown,
Whose status was even lower
Than that of a peasant tilling the land?...
Who was that guy
Who had no money to pay his taxes,
No sweet home to call his own,
Nowhere to lay his head?
Who was that guy
Who was tempted – not thrice, but constantly –
By the power, fame and glory,
But rejected them as the devil’s snare?
Who was that guy
Who attracted folks from all walks of life,
Not trying to mislead or fudge,
But reading in their hearts and minds?
Who was that guy
Who called “happy” and “blessed” not those
Pampered by gold and glamor,
But the poor, the lame and the bereaved?
Who was that guy
Who turned the whole order upside down,
Loving even his mortal enemies
And forgiving even the mortal sins?
Who was that guy
Who scolded and outraged the sanctimonious,
But dined with prostitutes and taxmen,
Raising them from dust to bliss?
Who was that guy
Whose only Kingdom was called “Heaven”,
Who ran away from all titles and honors,
Save the humblest one, “the Son of Man”?
Who was that guy
Who was misread and misquoted by many,
Denied by the staunchest of followers
And betrayed by the closest of friends?
Who was that guy
Who could escape the looming torture,
But preferred to sacrifice himself
For the sake of his flock and his cause?
Who was that guy
Who died, mocked and beaten, on the cross –
Not suspecting that his name would be used
To mislead, to torture and to kill?...

Well done! Sounds like a song of its own.
I've chosen the fragment from my favorite "Jesus Christ Superstar" quite deliberately... there were many of them available, but I preferred this one. :-)
Hugs and blessings - S.

So many who espouse peace as the way are gone... Many died tragically and suddenly... and some merely died too young:
Bobby Kennedy
John Kennedy
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Ghandi
Cesar Chavez
Chief Seattle
Mother Teresa
Mario Savio
and the list goes on and on...
Yes, dear Jean... that list could be continued.
Hugs and blessings - S.
Not suspecting that his name would be used
To mislead, to torture and to kill?...
IMO, the best lines to this poem.
I was at a loss how to finish this, and thought it was most fitting... something tells me that this is not the end, nevertheless. :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
You must continue with the 2nd coming and judgement day and eternity.
I already did this... in another poem called "Making Everything New". :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Wonderful Svetlana. I am priveleged to have your work on Jesus in The Now.
Jean's comment made me think of Dion's "Abraham, Martin and John"
Thank you, my dear friend! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Absolutely grand! Thank you.
And kill a Commie and two gays for Christ!
I'm a "Commie" myself, dear Leo, remember... and a gay-supporting Liberal at that... LOL! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen!" Luke 24: 1-6
Brilliant effort, Svetlana. Though we differ in our faiths, I believe we share in our love for God and those he has chosen to guide us. Peace & blessings. -M
Indeed, we do, dear Mustafa... our today's exchange proved it in the best way possible. I'm moved beyond all words! :-)

Well written and to the point, Sveta.

Thank you wholeheartedly, dear Penni... yes, it's never over for as long as it continues to resonate within us.

Mag took the words out of my mouth...powerful video to go along with your words Svetlana. That's the big question...can humanity start again with a clean slate...and would it make a difference. Would we understand the message of "that guy"?
I hope we would, dear Elizabeth... at long last. :-) How they put it - the alternative is too sad even to consider...
Hugs and blessings - S.
Very heartworthy of your Christian beliefs. Well written and sorry I can comment much toward the warm effect it has on my soul since I am a Zionist. Very beautiful and I think you did your faith some justice posting this one. Very kind and eye opening for anyone following this faith!
Thank you wholeheartedly, dear David... this means a lot indeed.
Blessings and best wishes - S.

Yes, the new beginning.. you'be grasped my intention well, dear Sunaura! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
I read this when I was at another PC, so when I came home I made a point of coming to your article just to say well done and very very well put. This should be used throughout time for the teaching and realisation of who they are citing when they use his name.
Thank you so very much, dear G.D. - I agree! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
I loved that rock opera, and you did an excellent job here, Sveta.
Featured in the The Triple Name Club

Love and hugs - S.
I love him :)
So do I. ;-)
Hugs and blessings - S.
Thanks, Sveta...
This is a beautiful look into your heart. I really like the desert images in the video. There she is in her desert and Jesus joins her there. I also like the humble humanity of the man playing Jesus. He looks like he is no stranger to the desert and so eager to meet her there.
Ahh...bliss!
I love "Jesus Christ Superstar"... can sing many compositions by heart, both in English and in Russian... not that I have too much of a voice. Thank you in great abundance, my dear Sestryonka! :-)
Love and hugs - S.
I think Jesus would approve of this!
I think so, too, dear Ann...
Blessings and best wishes in a plenty - S.
A fine saga but having risen from his grave he might be offended by that title: guy.
Somehow I don't think so, dear Haim... In fact, I suppose he would be pleased... :-)
Shalom ubraha - S.
You must know much better than me, I guess you're right. Times have changed drastically after all. Erev tov dear Svetlana.
Yes, my dear friend... times have changed, and we have changed with them. Shalom veerev tov! :-)
Oh how beautiful. I love it.
Thank you kindly, dear Carol! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
I want so much to know that "guy" not so much what others say about him or what they have written. I just want to know him fresh.
So do I, dear Karen... dedicated the last seven years of my life to this. :-)
Hugs and blessings - S.
A well done synopsis of The Gospel story in verse.
Yes, dear Bill, that's what I hoped for... thank you! :-)

Blessings and best wishes - S.
that was beautiful!
Thank you wholeheartedly, dear Jodi! ;-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Svetlana, I am always humbled when I see someone writing so well in what for them is a second language. I can only imagine that your verse in Russian is even more impressive, if that is possible.
I agree with others who have said the final stanza was the most powerful of all. The message that Jesus brought us was so profound, powerful and redemptive, it must hurt him deeply how many ways and how often we pervert it.
As long as there are those like yourself who honour it, it will survive.
Thank you in great abundance, dear Rory... I'm so deeply moved and honored! Indeed, I wrote poems in Russian - rather bad ones - many years ago, and I never thought I would write them in English until I met my certain someone who never stops to inspire me and support my poetic efforts... :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
((( Christ..so perfect )))Lovely!
Yes, dear Charity... thank you! :-)

Thank you kindly, dear Bhawana! :-)
Hugs and blessings - S.
Sveta, I'm a big fan of your topic, your use of repetition, and that exact musical. A pleasure to read. Rory was right on about how amazing it is that you are writing in a second language!!
Thank you so very much for your most kind and generous comment, dear Susan! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Wow! This was absolutely wonderful.
Thank you so very much, dear Sis! :-)
Love ya - S.
beautifully rendered... made my heart ache

Thank you kindly, dear Quinn! :-)
Blessings and best wishes in a plenty - S.
This is a very poignant declaration in the form of questioning verse which you've written so well, Svetlana.
Thank you beyond all words, dear Barbary! :-) Your most kind words and encouragement are so much appreciated.
Blessings and best wishes - S.
i agree w/barbary
an excellent choice!
The beauty of your own heart and spirit illuminate this one, as sunshine through a stained glass window.
Thank you beyond all words, dear Dawn and Julian! :-)
Blessings and best wishes in great abundance - S.
I came back to read this. There is one point concerning the message that I find debatable. I do not think Jesus was a poor man by the cultural standards of his era. He had a family growing up who did work and pay taxes. However, I know nowhere in the scriptures when Jesus paid taxes or was asked to pay taxes. Sorry, but I actually read and think about each line. The lifestyle of Jesus was of His (God's) choosing. I could compare this to that of the Buddha. Again, except for the 40 days, I can think of no scripture where Jesus was without food. Quite the opposite. He was wined and dined by many important people.
I'm a Christian and I believe in Christ, but I'm not bound by any religion ties, so I often ask myself why is this thought to be conventionally true and then I play Devil's advocate. Bad choice of words: Maybe. Semantics: Absolutely!!!
Dear Bill - as we all know, Jesus was a carpenter, i.e. an artisan - a craftsman - and since back in those times and in that particular society artisans were often the former peasants who, for some reasons, had lost their land (I suppose that enormous taxes demanded by the Romans were one of those reasons), no wonder that his social status "was even lower than that of a peasant tilling the land"... at least, the peasant HAD land, while the artisan usually had not.
Blessings and best wishes - S.
Well written! What a lovely poem, Svetlana!!
Thank you in great abundance, dear Lawrence! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
I feel strongly that Art as Truth does not ever get better than this. It was the last stanza that sealed the deal. I must admit I became worried halfway through that this might be just another really well-done Praise Jesus presentation. But it is more than that, so much much more.
This is what I call The Genuine Article. The Boss. The One.
It is, put simply, that friggen' FINE!!!
I shall be reading more of YOU Svetlana. I'm just some guy who likes to read, I'm not important as opinions go, but I've read TONS and this SHINES FORTH!!!
Thank you for your most generous praise, dear Glenn! :-) I'm humbled and honored beyond all words...
Blessings and best wishes - S.
I wanted to read your poem again so I did and I found phrases, heartstrokes that I had not di...oops -eye-gested during my earlier devour-fest. [I like to absorb Art, low calorie, tasty and high in Spiritual Nutrients, YUMMY!] I really LOVE your True Nature Svetlana, keeps your aura sweetly warm!
Say, I would be excited and tickled to the Soul if you could come by and meet Zale Orcid and Jules and Lisa Frost over at Zales poem, it's up top at my comments area or zaleorcid.gather, the poem with Owl Hootz in the title.
I'm on a mission to zilch away the space that seperates good folks here at Gather and elsewhere in our whirled. And as you surely know, two folks can zilch space away much more efficiently than one.
Shell we...Dance the Spaceaway Mambo??
Thanks Svetlana I know you Gals will flourish in SuperSynergy upon meeting up! Hey, and bring all the Friends you can fit on the Spaceaway Mambo Express!!
oops, shell we...I must have been thinking about ABALONE again.
Svetlana, I'm determined to learn Russian. I voodoo up the Russian alphabet to learn the pronounciation, WOW!! That backward R, is that ja? And Dos Vidanya,[sp?] what does that mean?
Thanks Svetlana! ummmm, how do I pronounce Svetlana?
Hope I'm not driving you to say NYET!!!!
very well done my friend... love and hugs...
Thank you for reading and commenting, my dearest ones! :-) And, dear Glenn, I know several of my friends who are studying Russian - it's a difficult task, but very rewarding one. "Do svidaniya" means "goodbye"; "Я" is indeed the Russian word for "I", and "Svetlana" is pronounced with the accentuation on the first "a".
Hope to be finally back soon - blessings and best wishes in a plenty - S.
You are a very pleasant person, Svetlana. I shall do some studying and learn the correct translations as best I can. I greatly appreciate your patience and even more, I am impressed with your ability to instruct; it is not often that my requests for assistance attract such a thoughtful and meaningful reply.
Thank You Svetlana!
.
You're most welcome, dear Glenn - thank you so very much for your generous praise! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
This is so moving and interesting,Sveta.Who was that guy created lot of curiousity.
