Isn't this the little place that Gus from Lonesome Dove picniced with his lady friend in his younger days? That Woodrow brought his body back to after their trip to Montana?
I am down here in Texas, visiting my grandkids.
We have had lunch a few times at Mel's. A little corner cafe that specializes in hambergars and a ton of fries. Collecting lisence plates from all over the country. They even have a cozy picture of the now President Bush.
Across the street is where I get my morning coffee. The conveinence store that doesn't sell gas. The first time I have seen one that doesn't, sort of nice.
A few days ago, the town put on a little get together. It was really nice. Everyone received a free raffle ticket, they had atleast 6 kids bikes with helmets. I thought I heard something about a t.v. but not real sure about that. They gave away flashlights, a couple different t-shirts advertizing a couple local stores, and some other toys and gadgets. I and my daughter in law was handed hackey sacks.
The really nice thing about this was soda, and water was free. Food and rides cost a ticket-that cost a quarter. So 5.00 paid for a fun time for the grandkids for two and a half hours of eating, and bouncing in air tents of all sorts of shapes and sizes. We even had tickets left at the end of the night.
At the raffle trailer they also had music and dancing. Upon our arrival Ashley says to me "country music, it's Texas, they always play country" I could of handled that, but they didn't. They had some fun dancing with We are family and early 80"s music. Yep a true Texas ho-down and they didn't even play Stevie Ray Vaughn. Go figure. No Waylin or Willie. We got disco, and the Village People.
Of course we forgot the camera
