After spending 24 hours in the animal hospital, our cat Spooky got to come home today. He is feeling much better. He is eating a little bit of his prescription diet, but not all that much. We traded the food he hated for a different prescription food that he likes better. I really haven't seen him drink water but he did wet in the litter box, which is a good sign with a cat that has had a urinary blockage. The vet injected fluids under Spooky's skin to rehydrate him. His bloodwork came out good, and better than the vet expected. His x-rays didn't show any big stones in his bladder. The vet couldn't believe that Spooky was purring, head-butting her, rubbing against her legs, and being as charming at the vets as he is at home. Usually she handles him with welding gloves and a towel over his head, because he throws terrible hissy fits when he has to see the vet. She was so tickled at what she called "his complete turn-around in his personality." She said it was like he was a completely different cat!
Spooky is still on pain medicine, which costs $7.50 per day, and on an antibiotic that costs $9 a day. I can't believe how expensive medicines are from the vet! He has to eat prescription food for the rest of his life and it's $1.31 for a small can or $15 for a 4 pound bag of dry food. If all goes well, Spooky sees the vet again in a month for a recheck. I sure hope we won't have anymore big vet bills for awhile, as we have been hit with several thousand dollars in vet bills over the past few months. That was enough to blow our budget out of the water! But what is money compared to the health of one's cat, right?
