I sit here, iTunes playing, dog at my feet, truly wanting to have something to write about. The urge is great, yet the mind is blank. Thoughts that creep in and out of my head are as follows... my dog sure has a lot of hair now... how much hair is too much... there really is a lot of hair in my life... shaving... washing... brushing... vacuuming... why are people so obsessed with hair, removal on some body parts, regrowth on others... how does location change hair from sexy to disgusting... stop thinking about hair... you should try poetry... you suck at poetry... what about the airplane related stories you want to write... **insert image of recent flight in which the cabin filled with smoke after take off**... just write about what you are thinking...
And tada! Here we are folks. Stream of consciousness. Its a magical thing really. And so easily influenced by external stimuli. For instance, I am now listening to Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. It makes me think about playing pool. And Native American pow-wows and not being allowed to drunkenly participate in the inter-tribal dance. Perhaps the next song will be by Nelly Furtado and I will be shot back to California, driving along 156 heading toward the 101 and up to San Jose to visit someone who should never have meant as much to me as he did. Or perhaps Lloyd or Daddy Yankee will make me want to go back to NYC for some serious booty shaking and 'no dyke drama on the pier tonight.' Instead, it is Krishna Das. Baba Hanuman. The song that I am convinced is the answer to world peace. No one can possibly feel anything but complete calm and happiness if they can just sit still and absorb the song.
In a very stream of consciousness fashion... can anyone tell me what a license plate that says WFB3R means? I would tell you what I think, but I don't want to lead anyone on the off chance that anyone chooses to answer me.
Also, can anyone explain why the city council of Scottsdale, Arizona would choose to put a sign that says 'Welcome to Scottsdale, America's most livable city" right in front of a cemetery?
Where was I? Oh yes... now we are on to Pat Benatar. It used to make me think of my cousin who really liked her. Now it makes me think of 'shake and bake' and the fighting chicken. Music can be an enormously powerful thing. I find that it tends to enhance the sad, negative, and angry in people more than the happy, positive, and friendly. We all have a therapy song. Mine happens to be Hailie's Song by Eminem. Perhaps I am aware that I am susceptible to the powers of music when it comes to altering the state of your mind and that is why I choose mindless rap, hip hop, and electronic music that makes my brain shut down and my body move. This could even explain why I love 60's and 70's rock. It isn't violently angry, but it still makes me move my hips when I walk.
So, I guess the lessons we have learned through the surprisingly focused ramblings of my mind are as follows:
1. If you start writing, something really will come.
2. Someone might be advertising that they are a wifebeater (WFB3R - you tell me). Or maybe they just work for beer.
3. Scottsdale needs more 'noticey' people around to prevent such horrible sign placement.
4. Krishna Das should be the next Secretary of State.
5. Back hair really is grosser than hair on your head.

The mind can follow some strange (but fun!) paths...
Irony, sheer irony.
Nice journey!
