The nerve of some people, a Halloween RANT!!

Alright, most of you know by now that I love a bargain and am always picking things up on clearance and putting them away!  I can't pass up a great deal! LOL

Anyways, my cousin has a 2 1/2 year old daughter.  About 3 weeks ago she was talking about Halloween and that she had no idea what her daughter was going to be this year.  And that times are tough and she couldn't see spending the money on a costume.

I had a costume in Steph'ys closet, still NEW WITH THE TAGS ON IT, and asked her if she wanted to use it this year.  She said that would be great, so I took it over to her. I told her she could use it this year and she told me she would give it back after Halloween.

Well, I was talking to her today and she said she can't wait for Halloween because her daughter is going to be the cutest witch on the block!  A witch, WHAT?!?!?!

So, I ask her about the costume that I let her borrow and her reply was...

"Oh, I changed my mind and gave that costume to one of my friends!"

WTH?  It wasn't hers to give away!  It was mine and I was letting her borrow it!  Granted I didn't pay a ton of money for it but that's beside the point!  I would have given it to someone who was actually going to use it or have sold it on Ebay!  I'm fuming mad right now!

If she had called and asked me first and told me she had changed her mind.  I would have gladly let her friend BORROW the costume!  But she didn't even have the common courtesy to ask first!  UGH!

Even if someone gives me something and I'm not borrowing it, I ALWAYS ask if they want it back once we are finished or my kids have outgrown it!  That's the right thing to do, in my opinion!

i totaly agree with you i geuss things weren't as tight as she let you believe and my kids are having homemade costumes this year because i would not spend the money on them when they won't be able to wear themagain next year is so easy to come up with a cute homemade costume and i think it alot more fun hope things work out for you

I love bargain hunting as well. Especially after Halloween bargain hunting since it's my favorite holiday :)

You are right on tis. If you had lent it to me and my daughter didn't want to wear it or I changed my mind I wold have called you so that you can have it back. That wasn't very nice.

Oh my God, I would be so mad with her. Why she didn't ask at first? That is just crazy, at first complaining and then when someone help her she give it to someone else.

Hmmmmm, she sounds like a witch herself. Did you tell her you did not loan it to her for her to give it to someone you don't know? Call her up and tell her the definition of borrow and loan.

Tell her how you feel. That is the only way to settle this. I would tell her I still want it back also. There is no excuse for someone to be so thoughtless of your feelings. You did the nice thing by allowing her to borrow it and she had the nerve to go and give it away. That is sad. I would be fuming too!

Sounds to me like you need to count to 10 (or 100) and have a heart-to-heart with her and ask her to get it back and return it to you. Jeepers. I would be fit to be tied as well! I don't understand attitudes like that at all! Let us know how it turns out!

WOW. She had some nerve! That's why I'm really careful who I let borrow things, you just never know. When I was little, my mom let her sister borrow my crib for my cousin. Well, a few years later, she found out that her sister had SOLD the crib at a yard sale! Can you believe it?

I guess she needs to call her friend and tell her she misunderstood and the costume has to be returned to you. That was nervy.

Sounds like a friend of mine that borrowed all of my maternity clothes and then sold them at a garage sale. When I got pregnant and asked for them back was when she told me. So, I had to go buy all new clothes. It never happened again.

It is unfortunate "your friend" did that. It is one thing if you GAVE it to her, but you did not. If she wasn't going to use it, she should have given it back....OR at least asked you first if one of her friends could borrow the costume. Neither was the case. Shame on her.

Obviously she assumed that you were giving it to her. Some people have to have things spelled out to them like a first grader!! I would let her now in a nice way that you were not giving it to her but allowing her to borrow it. Maybe she can get it back from her friend after they use it.

I have to agree with you on this one. We had a situation where a neighbor asked to borrow my husbands new chain saw. Well after 5 days my husband went over to ask for it back and the neighbor said he has to get it from his son who he gave it to. When we got it back the new blade was dull and there wasn't any oil in it. My husband said that he can never borrow anything from him again.

This situation would be upsetting to me too, especially when you stated that you wanted it back afterwards. I know this is her fault, but maybe you need to perfectly clear with her should you decide to let her borrow something again that she needs to return the item in the condition it was given to her, not just take her word for it (make sure she understands as well) and make her realize the item is not for her to give away to someone else under any circumstances. Just my two cents on the subject.

I have learned not to "loan" something unless it's something I can part with...because there's always that chance I won't get it back.

I agree though, that she had no right to give it way without discussing it with you first. When I receive something, I ask right then and there when they want it back. And like you, I ask afterwards too.

I would be mad, too. I don't ever loan anything to anyone but my mom and sister, though, unless it's something I don't mind not getting back. I get mad at my husband for loaning stuff out, because he loans it to people that don't return it. :( My husband loaned one of our big pyrex dishes to someone, and they took it with them when they moved! They are fairly expensive for baking dishes, too!

This is about how I felt when I loaned all of Angela's baby clothes to my friend..She gave some away, sold a few, lost others...Even lost one of Angela's first shoes that I was planning to have bronzed! UGH some people.
