how does gather make money

we are all here gathering (get it lol) points. how does gather make money? what is the real point of gather?

It started as a site for writers to have a place to be with other writers and hone their skills.

Any site with high traffic volume is hot stuff for advertisers. So, the more we contribute our interesting stuff, the more people come to see what's happening and the traffic increases. So we are actually earning that money for Gather.

Ads and sponsors. Those gift certificates we get for our points are paid for by sponsors, who pay for the priveledge to give us free stuff.

Definitely ads and sponsors. Plus, how many people actually only spend the amount on the gift certificate, especially if you buy on-line, because you can only use one gift certificate per order. Therefore, they make money on that end, too.

see those links on the right side of this screen and every other screen on Gather? Those are ads - some pay Gather when someone clicks on the link and others pay Gather based on how many people see the ad.

The more articles you post, the more pages Gather has in it's system. The more pages they have the more opportunities or places for ads to be posted and the more pages people look at.
