63 Kittens Dumped at Suburban Animal Shelter

As I read this morning on www.newsday.com, 63 kittens believed to have been used as bait for dog fighting (kittens don't strike back and hurt the dogs) were dumped on the doorstep of an animal shelter in Mount Vernon New York.  The 63 kittens were ridden with fleas and were stuffed into only 3 small brown boxes.  Read the article HERE.

I know many of you love kittens and animals and the article states that many of the kittens are already up for adoption, and the rest will be once they've received the medical treatment they need.

Moggy - I couldn't agree more. It's like a couple of weeks ago when a dog was found tied to a tree, 60% of his body covered in 3rd degree burns. The dog had been set on fire while tied and the owner was found and admitted that he did it after the dog had attached his other dog. The family is now complaining that they he is getting threats that people are going to come tie him to a tree and set him in fire. Let's see how he feels when someone does that to him.
how awful.
Oh, how sad. Those poor little kittens. I hope they will be ok & find great homes.

They arrested man here a couple of days ago. He had a pet rabbit outside in a cage with no food and no water. Our temps are in thee 100's with a heat index even higher. They found the rabbit dead. He is in jail on at 25,000 dollar bond.

People are can be soo horrible.. When will people get the clue that animals are not here to be abused. This is horrible.

I don't think there is a worse type of person than one who abuses animals. If I was closer I'd adopt one of these poor kittens for sure.

Awww!! That is just the saddest thing I've ever heard! My husband would kill me if I took in all the animals that I wanted to. I just hate to see them suffering!

What kind of sick bastard could harm an animal?? Whatever they do to the animals should be done to them....

I wish I could get a kitten but the hubby is allergic.

You all make such wonderful points! Angela - you are right. The dogs involved in this particular case are also victims. I hope they find the guy who dropped off the kittens so they can help save the dogs as well. Dog fighting seems to now be a major problem in this country.

This idiot's issues/problems are a nationwide problem, specifically here in the SouthEast. Needs to come to an end. The dog fighting, the tossing away of innocent creatures, the mass "not spaying issues". It does hurt deep down inside to see one of those creatures given to us to care for. Thank you for sharing the article, the need is there to reach as many people as possible to educate us all on what does happen and how we can help.
During the 80s I worked in the same block as the city pound. People would do drive by drop offs. They'd come by at night and chuck the animals out of the car door.

We had a kitten who was saved from drowning. One of our vet's clients' kids was out water skiing and saw a man tossing cats overboard. Her mother took care of the two kittens with the help of the people at the vet's office when the kittens were still being bottle fed. The sadder part was that she grew up to be a very unsuccessful cat. She had a lot of serious behavior problems. Giving a large, strong, unwilling cat Prozac is not easy. The vet said she'd probably suffered brain damage when she almost drowned.

This is so sad. It's unbelievable how people can be so cruel to animals. I hope they all find good homes.

People can be sick, cruel bastards to animals & to kids. I've saved both, or at least tried to help. I have an adopted daughter that will be 7 on Halloween. She suffered as a baby & we are still healing from the nightmare. I also have a fabulous dog that was abandoned as a puppy & she is a marvelous creature but she too has never gotten over some things, & the vet said she never will. But we are altogether here & have lots of love & keep on trying
