There are some on Gather who call me a racist. Others say I'm un-American. It's all because I don't give a rat's patootie about Barack Obama, don't support him and am not going to be watching his big inaugural waste of money. I'm not all that big into politics in the first place and wasn't really interested in the presidential race to begin with.
I didn't vote for Obama, but I didn't vote for John McCain, either. I cast my ballot for the man I thought would do the best job for me and my nation. The key here is that I did vote, so that gives me the right to express my opinion and say as I feel; not that it would have stopped me anyway. It's our right to vote; not a requirement. Too bad I don't have all of the rights everyone else has. This is, however, one right I do have and I plan on exercising it every chance I get. If someone asks, I'm not going to be shy about sharing my view.
I have blacks telling me I'm racist because Obama is dark and I'm white. It's an issue where they're calling the 'color card' into play. Blacks got their civil rights years ago, but that doesn't mean I have to fall down and kiss the ground every dark-skinned person walks on, including Barack Obama. I don't recall ever hearing about him being born in a manger. People still can't even figure out where he was born. He'll have to prove himself to be great warrior.
While many are going on and on and on about Obama being black, it seems to me I recall that his mama is white. That makes him just as caucasian and he is African-American. He is not the first black man in The White House. He's the first mulatto, or bi-racial, as they politically correct like to be called. I don't care what color his skin or racial background is. I don't like him as a man and I like him even less as a political figure...period. If blacks can't accept that, then they're fools.
Don't go talking to me about prejudice. I've been there...and am still there...facing many of the same inequalities blacks faced in the past. I'm gay and get treated much in the same way blacks were before their civil rights movement gained them their total freedom.
I am not allowed to marry anyone I want, just as blacks weren't legally able to marry anyone they wanted to...outside their race. Homosexuality is not a race, but it's a way of life we were born into, just as the color of a person's skin was the way they were born. I am called derogatory names and slurs. I'm treated as lower class. I can be fired from a job simply because of whom I love. If an employer finds out I'm gay, I can be let go on the spot; no questions asked, no reason given. 'My people' are physically attacked because of who they are...even killed because they're gay. Now, don't you go telling me about prejudice. I'm still at the place your people were at forty plus years ago. If you keep claiming I'm racist because I'm not all about your 'Messiah'; who's the ignorant one here?
As for being un-American because I don't plan on watching 'history in the making', I would imagine it's Democrats who are pointing the finger on this issue. You're not supporting our president? What are you...some kind of commie, pinko, fag? As I mentioned earlier, I voted. I went into that booth on Election Day and pulled the lever for the man whom I thought was the best choice. It wasn't for the winner of the presidency. Even though I'm a registered Republican, it wasn't for their candidate, either. I opted to vote for the independent. I guess that makes me hateful towards our nation because I decided to buck the two-party system. On top of this, I happened to have been born and raised in one of the most patriotic towns in the land; Waterloo, New York...official birthplace of Memorial Day...a place where those who have given theirs lives in the name of freedom for ALL have been honored continuously for nearly a century and a half. This commemoration has been instilled in me ever since I was a young boy; as far back as I can remember. I continue to observe paying tribute to these brave men and women to this day. I am confident in saying I'm more patriotic than your average American, so your argument is blown out of the water as well.
I hear the cry go up that Obama says it's time for a change. We can't go on as we have for the last eight years. Change can be good when it's for the better, but change can always backfire and be bad, too. You just don't know until it happens and I'm not too thrilled with all Obama has up his sleeve. On other issues, I just don't know yet, so I'm taking a wait and see attitude. I don't have to support the new president just because he's the leader of our country. I'll respect the man but I don't have to support him. He has to earn my support...and he hasn't done anything yet to do so. He hasn't even been sworn into office and he's already flip-flopping. Maybe that's the kind of change he meant. 'I'm president, so I can change my mind whenever I want to. I won the race and there's nothing any of you can do about it now.'
America is in crisis and I don't want to hear about loose change from loose lips. Do something to get our country back on track and prove to us all you weren't just uttering idle words to get elected.
One of the thing that makes me believe Obama is a lot of hot air is the way his inauguration has been arranged. If he really wants to save the American taxpayer money, why is he allowing so many millions and millions of dollars to be spent on his swearing in?
This is the most wasteful inauguration ever! It may be considered to be a momentus occasion, but one would think the man who wants to pull our people out of financial despair would stand up and say enough is enough...cut the waste and scale this celebration back...to save the people money. Obama hasn't even taken office yet and the exorbitant spending on his part is already taking place. He wants to give 'his people' the chance to witness history in the making. Wait a second here. Being Americans, I though we were all 'his people'.
I refuse to be a part of this fiasco. I was fed up with the way there was such a lengthy road to The White House to begin with. It went on far too long. Since the election, Obama has been in the news constantly. I'm bored with hearing about it. There are other things going on that are just important that don't receive the proper coverage because it's 'everything Obama'. Blame the media on that. At least some of the national television networks realized not everyone wants to put up with the pompous pomp and circumstance surrounding the inauguration. Good news, people! You won't be forced to watch if you don't want to, as this affair will NOT be crammed down our throats with no alternatives for those who don't like the taste. ABC will be running complete coverage throughout the night for those who want to watch.
There are news-related cable channels dedicated to just this type of performance. Other networks, however, will not be running a three hour non-stop, commercial-free Obama-thon. Yay!
It's rather funny the programming that will be running opposite the beginning of the inaugrual ceremonies...almost like the election all over again
. For Obama supporters, you can flip-flop back and forth, like Obama does on issues, and watch 'American Idol' on FOX. Those who don't care for the man can tune into 'The Biggest Loser' on NBC.
CBS will be airing NCSI and there's always Nova on PBS. Many networks have opted not to have coverage all evening long. How many of you will be watching something different? Personally, a test pattern from back in the 1960's interests me more.
How's that for the black and white of it all? I'll be checking out Simon, Paula, Kara, Randy and Ryan. I'm more interested in taking a look at fresh, new, upcoming talent rather than 'the same, old story'.
Call me a racist and un-American if you want. You don't know what I'm all about and your opinion on the topics don't mean diddly squat to me. I know what I am and those who matter know, too. As for Obama's inauguration, I find it to be O-boring...the same blah, blah, blah we've all heard before over the past couple of years. Mind you, this is just my take on the matter. You don't have to agree. Just don't be rude and crude about it like others already are. You can take part if you'd like. I won't be there. Enjoy...if you can stay awake.

I dont view you as a racist.
And you are right the important thing is that you voted.
Since you've put your views in the public view, by doing so, you have "invited" discourse and, therefore, I will add my opinion:
I think your anger is misdirected and I think the sooner you can start to let go of some of it, the better you will feel...
Respectfully and affectionately,
jean
And you have a right to your opinion, and your vote. I see more of an issue in that taking such a negative attitude about the message President Obama is trying to get people to internalize will block you from actually being part of the solution, not the problem. And we need people to step up to the plate - not just at the voting booth, but in their communities, in their lives, and, if possible, in the nation and world. If everyone felt like you, Rob..if everyone had that attitude, we would have been finished as a nation a long time ago.
We will continue to fight for gay rights, in spite of whether Obama supports it or not.
Love ya Rob!!
I did not vote for President Obama and have yet to be shown whether he is more than just pretty words and a cool facade and will stand back and wait for the "goods" to be produced so to speak. Can't judge a job before it is even done so I certainly hope that all the people who have thrust him up onto a pedestal don't get too impatient waiting for his halo to start glowing as well. That is a lot of presure to put on a mere man, no matter the race, but should he fail there is no doubt that his failure will somehow be blamed on George W. Bush and all the mean, nasty Republicans! Boo, hiss.... (I am one of those awful Independent fire starters just so you know)
My interest is in what he does after the party rather than what he wore to the party so I shall reserve my snarkiest comments for my favorite Idol...."clicking channel to ABC."
To claim racism, Rob, is to have no other argument. So, take comfort in knowing you have argued into the corner every idiot who tries to use it against you. :-)
I hope those changes come along for gays and lesbians as well.
Nothing changes quickly. Nothing.
As long as there are people who believe it is a choice instead of an inborn trait:
As long as there are those who believe it is a sin rather than an inborn trait:
As long as there are those who use hate to deal with those different than themselves,(on both sides of the question):
Things won't change.
I don't consider you a racist, Rob. I hope you can let your hate go, which is non-productive and embrace a positive outlook though. Love always will trump hate, no matter what the subject.
Peace out, hon
How come you don't get all the haters on your article like I did when I called him "mulatto"? I did an article titled "Obama is not our first black president", and called him mulatto, and they jumped on me like white on rice. I guess I've been living under a rock, b/c I had no clue mulatto was a "bad" word. It's not a slang term, it's in the dictionary - it just means you had a white parent and a black parent. What's wrong with that?
You're not a racist, you're just a frakking idiot.
Congratulations.
We need to work together, and all be part of the solution. We can disagree, but we can't afford to sit back and watch and hope for the results we want. (I'm not suggesting you would do that, by the way, but many are.)
voting for who I wanted didnt turn out otherwise we be wating carrot cake for celebration
and as for liking who I want I love my hubby and you are a great friend yet I only like you sorry
Rob -- How come all the haters are not jumping on you like they did on me when I said mulatto? What's up with that?
Is it because I'm a woman?
That must be it. They hate women.
I am just stopping in.
When history gives you the leader you want maybe he/she is not the leader you need.
I wish OBAMA must blessings but I do feel that his political views are plain and simply wrong. I follow politics in a few countries and I have noticed when a liberal goverment takes power after the reign of a long standing Conservative governemtn or vice versa, its very difficult to change anything. People spent 8 or more years with a specific leader and don't realize how much their political views infilitrate their thinking. Wait and see what happens after he begins to follow his liberal agenda. Will American allow him to do all the things that all liberals want...
While voted for Obama, it's Wall Street & it's ugly moguls that truly run the show...
Perhaps things WILL change for the better.. Just look back to the 60's to see how far we have come.
You have stated that you want him to create equality for gays and lesbians yet I hear you say that you will sit back and watch. While you sit back and watch my sick old self has been working and fighting for our rights. You want to to watch - too bad for you. Do something useful.
You go on everywhere about how you only have $25.00 a week to eat so you only eat Banquet dinners. You could eat so much better if you cooked some budget friendly recipes that you can find online.
You can only take public transportation? You and 1/4 of the disaled population do that. You're not the only one. Do something about it.
You make no sense. You're an angry white boy Rob. You're lonely and unhappy. You wonder why you're that way.
I don't.
I voted for Barak and I know people of the alternative lifestyle around here who voted for McCain and I was surprised... since Barak seems to have all Americans and others' interests at heart and up for clear consideration in his Presidency?
Barak is the one I prayed for to win as well! Amen to that! God gave us a good leader this time for sure!
The Reverend Father St. John (of the Cross)
I didn't read everything you wrote--the nausea started to overwhelm me--but my general impression is that what this sounds like to me is a whoel lot of sour grapes, you sorry-assed, whiney little weenie.
I don't much care about whether you're a racist or un-American or whatever. What you sound like to me is an inconsequential asshole who will never amount to anything, least of all the First Gay President of the United States. So, why don't you just stick a sock in it already?
I replied, "I don't know what the cost of just today was, but the whole deal is estimated between $150M and $170M, supposedly all privately donated. For someone so socialistically inclined, he cetainly had no problem accepting and spending the money of the capitalists who made it and donated it."
If Lynn Swann, Larry Holmes, Jerry Christian, or even George Foreman had been elected, I'd be all for it (laugh all you want, but George Foreman is a genius when it comes to business, marketing, PR, and publicity- all four would be good qualities for a US president).
I do not look forward to tomorrow, or to any other day, for that matter.
We have become the "'Obama-nation' that worketh desolation."
Let he that readeth understand.
As for being Gay and having all those issues. My daughter is gay, but she sure lives in a different world than you do. I'm so sorry to hear folks around you are still being ignorant. Sure, she has the issue of not having the right to marry who she wants, but since we don't believe in Marriage, because of all the nasty marriages we have seen in the world (which is way more than the good ones), that's not a problem for her. I never realized that makes it so much easier for her. And, as for employment, she's never had an issue with that either. So, that's why I'm so sorry that you have those issues still. It makes me sad to know there are still enough ignorant folks in society to make it that big of a deal for anyone! Sad. I don't think everyone has to embrace homosexuality and agree with it, but you'd think that they'd know it wasn't their right to choose for others.
I had to know what all of the hype would be about today but must confess am fed up with politics and the big O for a lifetime!!!
Yesterday I was watching some tv on dvd and then I watched a little bit of American Idol and then Fringe. I don't get ABC so I couldn't watch anything political.
I was thinking about all the money they spent. A lot of people were able to work at this event. People who might not have had work. That is important.
Not really of importance...I am a mutt but people won't let me be one. A few times I have asked if I can put Asian down when I fill out paperwork about myself. They always tell me not to because I don't look Asian and to just put Caucasian or white. I don't ask anymore.
Not just bitch and moan.
Katie aren't you without a job? Who do you thank for that.
You are not racist or Un American... I think an Un American is one that refuses to place their hand over their heart , when they hear the Pledge.... Or refuses to stand when the Star Spangled Banner is played...
I think a racist is Rev. Wright, and the old black geezer that made the remarks about whites yesterday in his closing prayer...I think alot of racist were the ones attending Obamas big day.... If you didnt vote for him because you had issues with him, (such as the gay rights bill) I can understand this... At least you can see that he is not the Messiah , he is not MLK, he is not JFK, he is not Abe Lincoln, he is not FDR... He is a man who had no experience but pulled the race card and as usual America fell for it.....
Those who support Obama want us to come together as a nation but yet,,,, maybe, if they had stood behind Bush and supported him more, things would of been better for us by now... Sure sounds like double standards as usual....
You have every right for your feelings... Alot is going on in your life that unless we walk a mile with you we have no right to judge you and say why, are you so angry... they need to read your post and they might know... You my friend, have come along way and can only do so much at a time....
I think you are an inspiration to us all and I love the fact that you still have a sense of humor.... take care of yourself and maybe in time, things will get better.
I have to agree with Kimberly "You're entitled to your beliefs, Rob, and that in NO WAY makes you racist! And I agree, you certainly know something about descrimination firsthand. I pray that one day no one will be discriminated against....for anything!"
I think your opinion is just as important as anyone elses. 100% as important!
Thank you for saying what I have been trying to say for so many months.
I 1000% agree with you,
And truthfully I'm glad to know that I am not alone with my thoughts and feelings about Obama.
I not only kept my television off, but was able to avoid news articles based on headlines, kept my radio off both yesterday and today....and well some people just can't accept that I do not like Obama, and believe me I have told Obama that I don't like him, I just don't know if he's seen it.
I have the contact the white house page bookmarked and plan to send an email every day saying that I don't believe Obama should be president every day that he is in office.
Mooch
I'll just say that I disagree with just about everything you said and leave it at that. (First time that has happened, I think).
