I agree. I think everything is so fast paced these days. I wouldn't give up my simple childhood for anything in the world.

You make some great points, love technology, but life sure is fast paced.

I had to chuckle when I read this. I can relate but my story is a different. My 3 year old grandson knows more sign language than I do. He is learning it in the preschool program he is in. Whatever happened to coloring and eating snacks all day? My 1 year old grandson is deaf so thats why sign language is important to me, but its embarrassing to know the 3 year old knows more about it than me.lol

I love the fast paced technology but can't keep up
as well as the children of today can!

This is why my kids have as much computer access as they want. I don't think that limiting computer time and, perhaps as a result, skills is a good idea.

Yeah, kids are doing so much nowadays. But I'm sure it seemed that way to our parents and grandparents.

It sure is different than when we were kids, huh? It amazes me when the kids bring home their homework and it is what I did but at a much older age....

Heh, imagine how bad it'll be when people start getting homework assignments by disc. "Sorry, teacher, my homework fell and got scratched and now my computer won't read it."

I think it is sad that they are somewhat forced to grow up so fast. It's good that they are more knowledgeable, but they may be missing out on just being carefree and having fun.

I heard someone say once that they thought a lot of the problems my generation is facing are due to the facts that there are so many avenues and choices in the world now for us. It used to be that a person grew up pretty much knowing what they were going to do and what was expected of them. Now we're told that we can do anything and be anything we want to be. Its gloriously freeing, but its also a little scary all at the same time.

I think another unfortunate side effect to all of this is the number of people that are "left behind" As technology in the workplace increases, and the demand for the knowledge to go with it increases, then the ones who have a slower learning curve facing a bigger uphill battle than ever before today. Special needs programs often becomes little more than a shuffle to teach kids to live independently and function in janitorial work at best. There are very little alternate opportunaties being left open to them, simply because of the increasing requirements, and the time involved in teaching those skills is not considered "cost effective" so they are pushed into the base trades to earn their pay. If they want to attend a vocational school they are suffled into minor classes, and not allowed to do half of the work in the group, since nobody knows what they are truly capable of accomplishing. It is a sad thing, especially when we are supposed to be in a country where they have "no child left behind."
