This is a difficult topic for many people and sometimes it is a topic that people simply do not discuss. In our family, that is not an option. I have two grandchildren that could possibly need kidney transplants when they get older. It has been discussed by every member in the family so that there is no question who is willing to get tested and who is not. It is something that we refuse to allow our family to be torn apart about, while still trying to insure the lives of these amazing boys. Who knows, by the time they are old enough to need this, science could change so much that it won't be necessary. So, how do you feel about organ donation? Has it ever hit close to home for you?

That said I have had a spot on my Drivers license for years too.
I've always said I'll donate everything except my eyes, skin, and lungs (not my eyes & skin because I don't want to be disfigured when I'm dead, and not my lungs because I have asthma and it probably wouldn't help anyone anyway to get them)
I would like to think that I would be willing to give a little bit of me if I was still alive but I must admit, that is a bit scarier.
I would also be willing to donate bone marrow but it costs so much to get the test done. The mere $90 might not stand in the way of others but for me it is a big chunk of change.
Bottom line: life is precious and I believe I have a part to play therefore I must suit up, show up and put up.
My mother just passed away on Mother's Day and we had her organs donated. She wanted that and we agreed with the decision. Right now at least two people can see beacuse of her donatd corneas and many others are benefitting from bone, skin and tissue taken from her. My dad has stated that he wishes to be an organ donor and I do too. If I'm dead, I don't need them anymore, so why not give them to those that need them...
I have marked the box on my driver's license, but it won't do any good unless your family knows your wishes. They have the final say. So be sure to let your family know your wishes!
