Trip to the Vet

Actually we chose our current vet because of a rabbit we had several years ago. It turned out to have a nerve disorder that cause a very serious illness, it had probably had when my daughter got it. Anyway, this was an emergency vet as well, and they took such good care of my daughters rabbit and tried to help my daughter save a rabbit we thought was dead when we first found it, that we have been going here ever since.

Our dog runs our house...LOL

Our cats rule for sure Stephanie and we are members of their family I think. We choose our vet because of the location and a recommendation from our neighbor who also has a cat and told us how good this vet was. We once took our cat who passed away last year to a vet who was closer to us and were very dissatisfied, so we are glad our neighbor steered us in the right direction. Now if they wold just lower their bills!

We have had the same vet for 30 years now. Of course, we have had several dogs, too. (I sure wish dogs had a longer life span.)

Rocky is our kid. He's the best dog anyone could ask for.

we have no pets but when we did we used the oldest well known vet in our community he was great

We go to the vet closest to our house but he is a very good vet and has a large practice with 4 vets in the office. They get us in on time and don't leave us waiting for a long time in the waiting room. His prices are high though.

we work on our own animals here on the farm.

First I am an animal lover. Due to allergies to cats I only have dogs. Currently I have 2 cockers in residence. They OWN me instead of the other way around.

I LOVED my first vet. When he retired he sold to another. I thought ok, she's close and Emmy (a previous cocker) is healthy, basic shots I don't have to like her personality. WRONG!!!

When Emmy got Cancer and had to be put down she wanted to drag it out with all the surgery, chemo, radiation, etc... not because it would make Emmy FEEL better but it would get rid of the cancer. Through all of this I felt judged for not wanting to make Emmy go through what I saw my sister go through when she fought hers. I kept asking about Emmy's quality of life and the vet talked about $$$ and how I could better pay for it. Finally I got her to agree to put Emmy down because I was not convinced her pain would be better. It made it 10 times worse for my emotions to have to argue to do this.

When I got Kip (my black & tan boy cocker) I took him in for the initial check up. I still was not quite happy with her bedside manner but I'd give her one more chance. The took him out of the room to "clip his claws" (usual practice there). However, when they brought him back they said she had already looked at him and he's ok.... "What? no input from me?" (not usual practice). I felt like I had taken my child into an ER that suspected me of child abuse.

At the park "Puppy Happy Hour" I started hearing some of the same discourses about this vet from other "puppy parents". All of this made me find a new vet. My brother loves his vet (he has cats). I tried her. I see why he loves her. She loves her patients like they were her own (like I love my babies). She will get on the floor and play with them. She gives us hugs when we arrive and leave. Best of all she has great knowledge as a vet. If she doesn't know or doesn't treat that specialty she knows the best vet to refer to. She's a little more expensive on heafty things but mindful of our budgets. So now I drive 12 miles instead of the few blocks but it is SOOOOOOOOO worth it.

In general we love them all but we go have a little cairn who thinks that she is the boss to everyone. SHe puts all of the other dogs in their place and I tell you what she is not kind at all about it. I love mu vets. I switched not to long ago also because there were vets that are a lot closer which makes it really nice.
