I am hesitant to reveal that I have actually been to and spent the night in few large cities. I am a country girl at heart and therefore have never really felt the need. So, I will need your help. What is the best large city to visit and why? My daughter loves large cities. She moved away for awhile to live in one, but returned to small town life to be close to the family again. I am glad, but sometimes I can tell she misses what a city had to offer. I wonder what it is that draws her to them so much. Any light you can shed on the subject would be great.

As for cities, there is obvious one near you, but I would suggest Chicago and San Francisco for US cities. Both are vibrant, varied, and architecturally interesting cities. Denver is one of my favourite cities and the one I know best. Other American cities I recommend are Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Boston.
I have never been, but Montreal is supposed to be a fantastic city and one I hope to visit. Other world cities - London, Rome, and Barcelona in Europe. Melbourne in Oz, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Taipei in Asia. Haven't been to Japan yet, but Tokyo is a must see for me.
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Chicago! I also agree with Mr Bill that San Francisco and Boston are great places to visit.
If you are looking for something in Canada, I love Toronto!
There are so many great places out there. You might want to check out some travel books from the library to get an idea of different types of places to visit.
Chicago For All
I like a big city and small towns depending on the place of course.
If I want to go shopping at any hour I can do it in a big city.
Many things are open & there is plenty to do.
Now living in a community of San Diego....if I want the beach I drive 15 miles. The mountains? 45, another country (Mexico) 30 miles.
You can see it all here and still have peace and quiet. The rent and house prices are high as they can be though.
