Party of "no" refuses to participate in Senate meetings on climate change

The only agenda the party of no has is to screw the public.

I think it's because they're a fun loving bunch of scapegraces. There's also a parliamentary technicality about whether or not a bill can be released from the committee without a certain number of minority party members present. They and the Democrats differ over this. It could be that they've discovered a new way to earn their pay without doing anything. :)

With all due respect, Senator Barbara Boxer is one of the single most polarizing figures in the United States Senate. Majority rule DOES NOT apply in the United States Senate for the exact reason of protecting the rights of the minority. No meaningful emissions regulations without the support of Republicans and if Democrats insist on steamrolling them at every turn, nothing will be accomplished. The whole "Party of No" thing can only last so long. Republicans have no incentive to work with Democrats when their concerns are completely ignored and then when they vote against Democratic legislation, they are criticized for being "anti-everything."
The Senate used to be collegial. Now the institution is turning into a partisan hurricane rivaling even that of the House

Like the Republicans pay attention to Democrats' concerns when the GOP has the majority.

There is no incentive the Democrats could offer that would cause the Party of NO to work with them. They only care about delaying, denying, and defeating anything and everything the Dems propose -- whether or not it would benefit them or their constituents.

I think it's insane that they're even considering this.

I agree that walking our or not attending in protest was not really a good thing to do but know this, they were not examining the costs at all they were trying to pass the bill as is with as few questions as possable. The true costs are still no known.

Denial, I think not. I think they just never jumped on the band-wagon in the first place. Global Warming is more an more proving to be just an alarmist tactic, a false religion. Science is not backing up the claims so now they call it "Climate Change". What a crock. The climate is always changing and it is called seasons. It happens everywhere because it is nature as it was meant to be. Why don't they just rename it to something to reflect what it really is, TAX for a cleaner environment.

Climate Change is the more precise term. It isn't an attempt to hide anything, merely an attempt at defining the process more accurately.

If they know what is ultimately good for both their own interests and those of this country, the opposition party will give up on blatant obstructionism and work out actual useful programs to address the issues most of us do care about. The Democratic Congress is not acting as many people would wish from the various political viewpoints. It would be good for this country to have reasonable debate over well thought out possible solutions from a variety of views, perhaps to engage in the well known benefits of synergy, making from differing parts a more dynamic whole.

Very droll, Marilyn, but totally inaccurate. Your 2008 candidate for President, John McCain, has for a long time considered climate change a serious problem for the future of the human race. You Governor of America's most populous state, Arnold Schwarzenegger, considers it a deadly threat, and he has attempted to take on the role of leadership in combatting climate change that the federal government has long ducked.

Of course you would be right about GW Bush, but let's not generalize. As ususal, you told a half truth. You said "Republicans." You needed to say "some Republicans."

If you want to know the truth about the Republican party, here it is. Many are climate denialists. Many are believers, but are unwilling to spend a dime on it. Some, including almost all moderate Republicans still in the Party, consider it a serious and real problem, and therefore something that will not just "go away" without a dime being spent on it.

and actually, GW Bush himself never once denied that climate change exists. He never even denied in public that it is a problem. He was unwilling to commit to the prevailing science that human fossil burning is the cause, because that would have required him to stop ducking the issue. But he never once said that it was a hoax. Surely with his much vaunted honesty, if he had actually believed it to be a hoax, he would have said so?

much drilling ,deep oil and gas well drilling utilizing billions of gallons of potable water has been performed in Arizona,New Mexico,Colorado with disastrous results to the aquifers( drinking water) , watersheds and soiled poisoned from the byproducts dumped ,and individuals safety threatened with gas leaking into homes via water sources.

The problem stems from the hold Cheney and Haliburton has on the Republican Senate..the Haliburtan Act passed by the Bush administration in 2005 gives the oil/gas companies a pass to dumping the byproduct of deep well drilling and furthermore severely limits and litigation by private individuals to any injury caused as a result of the deep well drilling or any accidental exposure to the poisonous ,carcinogenic byproduct fluid.. The Act excludes the deep well drilling for gas from the Clean Water Act..oh and you KNOW the Bushies weakened that Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act,too. anything to pump up profits for pals..

So to acknowledge climate changes would open all the measures on the books that ratchet up profit margins as conservation is sacrificed in wake of shortcuts..much easier to pollute and down the road the people pay for cleanup using tax dollars..instead of the SOB's that caused the pollution cleaning up or adhering to rules preventing or reducing pollution .
Those measures that mitigate pollution ,any kind air,soil water , at the source are expensive for companies,so they claim...better to take a chance with the public's overall health..what's a lil asthma, lymphocytic leukemia or malignant melanoma afterall?

Man made climate change is a hoax. If man were so powerful then we wouldn't be around right now. The climate changes over time. It's warmer now than it was from 1300-1825 when the English held winter carnivals ON the Thames River. Yet from 900-1300 the Vikings farmed in Greenland. All that with no mean and nasty United States to blame.

You know what, the Little Ice Age was a factor in the American Revolution. The Hudson froze over and that was a great help in supplying George Washington's troops in their fight against the British.
