Every morning, when I wake up, the first thing I do when I open my eyes and roll over is reach for the remote control to turn on my television to the local, morning news. Not only does it tell me what's happened in my city and the world overnight; it also gives me a little light to be able to see so I can haul my butt out of bed. I head to the bathroom to take care of business; then make a pot of coffee to help open my eyes a little wider. There are mornings I need my eyes open to be able to pay attention to what's happening in the news. On other days, the news is what make my peepers pop.
From the kitchen, I head to my living room straight to the computer. I check the activity that's taken place on Gather overnight and go through my routine of lighting the day's first cigarette, checking my blood sugar levels and downing a couple Aleve to help limber me up from the overnight stiffness my arthritis has left me with. My day is underway and I'm off and running. The news continues playing in the background, loud enough for me to hear what's been going on, so all I have to do is turn around when something interesting starts being discussed.
The local news starts at 5:00 and runs for two hours before The Today Show takes over. I noticed something different this morning. It was quite obvious. It wasn't what I heard today, but what I didn't hear. For the first time in I don't know how long, there was no mention whatsoever of President Barack Obama. Not one single word was said about our leader! It was so refreshing!!! I don't hate the man, but I get so sick of hearing about him day in and day out, especially since it seems like it's been years his puss has been on the picture tube all the time. He may be yours, but he's not my Savior. He's only the leader of our nation; a man hired to do a job. I hope he does the job well, but I don't need to know his every move.
Whatever this man does becomes newsworthy for some reason. He's no different than you and me. He puts his pants on one leg at a time. He uses toilet paper, too. He breathes and bleeds like all of us do. No need to give me a blow-by-blow description of what's going on in his life. I really don't care. Give me the breaking news that's important. Do we really need to know every little detail on what he does? I don't need to know what fashion he's wearing or where he and his wife, Michele, went for dinner. The type of pet he's getting for his daughters doesn't interest me in the least bit. Just give me the facts on what he's doing to help our nation and more importantly, our people; meaning you, me and all legal citizens of America. If I wanted fluff, I'd open a jar of marshmallow.
The thing that struck me odd was that President Obama's first 'official' prime time news conference is scheduled for tonight, which will be carried on many networks, but there was no mention of this at all. I'm already aware of the fact, seeing how it's been crammed down our throats for days. Is it because we hear so much about the man with daily 'everything Obama' coverage that a presidential address has become such a nonchalant event? Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed NOT hearing his name mentioned on the morning news, so much so, I turned my TV off at 7:00 so I could avoid the national news, which I was sure would be making Obama's address one of the top stories of the day. (And here I am bringing up his name myself. I need to be slapped!)
I haven't written this piece to bring on controversy or to put the president down. I'm simply saying, 'Enough is enough!' I know others argree with me in that too much of a 'good thing' is bad...it detracts away from important issues that need to be heard. It's Obama this...Obama that. I hear the name and tune the reports out, as I'm sure others do, as well. I'm surprised an 'Obama Network' hasn't started airing that follows his every move, complete with webcam coverage throughout The White House. I would NEVER watch, but I'm positive there would be those who would tune in daily unable to take their eyes away.
I know, from the title of my post, staunch Democrats who bow down and kiss the ground Obama walks on will flock to this article; many whom have never read anything else I've ever written. I'll see some who come out of the woodwork to find out what they've missed in regards to the man. They haven't missed a thing, especially if they live in my city and watched the morning news. There was nothing, for a change, to miss. No doubt, their comments will be critical of me for not praising the man and giving my life over to him. There will also be Republicans who show up who are less of a fan than I am, to see if they missed some dirt on the man. They'll make a big deal about no coverage today claiming he's beginning to fall from grace with lack of air time.
So what's the point behind my post? It's not meant to start controversy or generate discussions and arguments. I didn't write this to begin (or continue) a war between the factions. I'm not trying to tear the president down, but I'm sure not trying to build him up, either. Maybe my intentions were simply to show the extremes on both sides how ridiculous their opinions and comments can get at times, as I'm sure will be evident by some of the words that will be left below. I don't really have to prove anything. Some of you already do a good enough job on that yourself. I just sit and shake my head at times in regards to how vehement people can get over Obama. Personally, I don't care all that much to get worked up and boost my blood pressure over the issue like some do.
I'm simply saying I enjoyed his absence in starting my day for a change. No news is good news!
Alright, I will admit I had somewhat of a hidden agenda, too...point whoring. There go my ratings...down, down, down...which doesn't bother me. I got your page view...thanks for the extra cash in my pocket! I won't know which ones did so, but the trolls will come out of the woodwork to shower me with those ratings of '1'. I sit back and laugh in your anonymous, gutless faces. Life's too short to worry about such nonsense in the first place. I know I have better things to think about...like how to spend that money you just gave me; my own economic stimulus plan. I'm sure you've heard of 'Bowling for Dollars'. Well, this is nothing more than my own version I call, 'Trolling for Trollups.' Thanks...and have a nice day!

You USE your bathroom? For BUSINESS?
I thought it was just an extra-large closet with a cool chair. I certainly don't do anything in there.
The same thing happens with celebs though and media outlets covering their every move. I remember a few weeks ago everyone was making a big to do about someone reapplying their lip gloss while walking down the street. Hello! What woman hasn't? They make them in pocket size for that very reason. Take the el any morning in Chicago and you will feel like you walked into a beauty salon. Everyone is applying makeup, fixing nicked nails, braiding haiir.....
10 4 U!
As for hearing about Obama every day, I don't care about half the stuff that makes it on tv as news. Like I did with Bush, when I get to much. I turn my tv off. Or if I am reading the paper, I turn the page.
Good morning Rob!
Thanks for sharing!
And if we could go a whole day without news on Obama and his wife or daughters (I think the press should leave his daughters alone, because they are minors), it would be a refreshing change.
All I have heard about all weekend on the radio in the news is the stimulus this, stimulus that, headlines on every news outlet online saying how congress was doing a rare Saturday Session, etc.
And living within 90 minutes of DC, I probably hear more news that goes on in the Capitol City.
Mooch
Mooch
he is so photogenic..........
hehehe.........
and since we voted him in so overwhelmingly, we must have our daily celebrity reports, don't we ? ? ?
OMG!!!
hahaha.........
that's as far I'll go, 'cause I know you don't want to get all political this early on a Monday morn..........
24/7 coverage of BOs every move and every expression is counter productive. People will soon begin to ignore the news. When something important comes up a lot of people will miss it because they no longer listen.
I get up, turn on the coffee, turn up the thermostat, do the bathroom thing, turn on my "puter", roll up my oxygen tube and stash it near the machine at my desk. click on explorer to upload my Gather e-mails, get coffee and settle down to answering and commenting. Also take a few surveys. It has gotten to be a routine.
By the way, I gave you a ten.
No, he doesn't.
Click here to send a Glitter Love Out Loud ping.
I also enjoyed some of the comments, and wish I had something witty to add, but I'm witless today.
Trolling for trollups is great!
btw - do you read your pings?
Uh, well, actually, Rob...There is one small thing that makes him different from you and me...well, at least from me. You see, he's PRESIDENT of the United States. The Top Dog, Chief Executive. He has a WHOLE LOT more power than I do. Maybe that's not different from you. Can't say since I don't know you. But, it seems like the Medial is always putting the president on the news. My friends and I used to get so tired of seeing Bush all the time. Every single person I know with a remote would grab it, change it, and say, "Oh no, not him again!" So, I think it's just a thing they do with the most powerful man in our country. Why they think we care about what goes on in the government is beyond me.
This was funny! A "10" for sure. (Now, we know what you're doing at any given moment of your morning.)
I think you expressed what a lot of us feel. The media keeps pushing on the notion that we need to know, or even care, about what Barack, Michele and their two girls do during their every waking hour. This is TMI (Too Much Information) at it's best. It's not good for us, and it's not good for them.
We need the Obama administration to be successful and If I believed that idol worship of Obama was the best way to solve the economic woes of this country then I, too, would have that unyielding affection. We all need to have a different priority than 24-7 tracking of the Obama's. We need economic growth, not growth of a personality cult.
And, personally, I don't care what kind of a dog they decide to get. We even get watered and fed periodically on that.
Enough is enough.
However, you may get in trouble with your "Cackle Clatch" on this one...I will have your back if so...(like you need it)....LOL
Seem more like a principle of contradiction.
It caused me to laugh so a 10 for you.
Talk about getting in trouble, I caused myself to be flagged yesterday, and with this comment, I will probably be up blank creek without a paddle.
Ten.
Has anyone heard how HE is doing on NOT SMOKING In the White House???
lol Dan.
*sigh*
Loved your post though and just had to tell you that! Have fun doing your business!
