I pass through downtown Pittsburgh every weekday now, and thought it would be nice to share a few sights with you...

This is the view of Downtown if you ride the subway in from the South Hills.

These images form one of the many murals you can find around Pittsburgh. This one lives in one of the subway stations.

PPG Place is one of my favorite buildings. It looks like a glass castle and reflects the beauty of the sky in all weathers.

There are lots of pieces of permanent artwork living in Pittsburgh, and there are usually some more temporary pieces that belong to a larger effort to boost art appreciation, like this one. There are many dinosaurs gracing the streets of Pittsburgh right now, made of various materials and geared, I think, to attracting children specifically to our local museum. This Disco Dino lives in the courtyard of PPG Place.

This is the fountain in PPG's courtyard. At night it is lit with recessed lighting that changes color in time to the fountain, which can be set to music or respond to movement. People love to eat their lunches in this courtyard, and PPG Place may look familiar to anyone who has seen the first Inspector Gadget film. Actually a lot of filming goes on here as they can make Pittsburgh look like just about any other city. PPG is relatively new though and we have lots of lovely buildings from other eras...

I hope you enjoyed this quick look around downtown Pittsburgh. I'm sure there will be many other such photos to share. But before I go, I'd like to share one of my favorite murals NOT found downtown.... a little shop in Swissvale graced their wall with this lovely work of art...

The dinosaurs were part of a program a few years ago to create a kind of consistent public art theme spread throughout the city. A number of other cities have done the same thing. I think Chicago introduced it to the US first; the concept seems to have originated in Zurich. Most of the dinosaurs got auctioned off after the summer they appeared, but several are still scattered about in public areas.

i guess when i drive into town i just don't stop to look
next time i will
I was in Pittsburgh for a July 4th party one year when I worked for the airlines. One of my co-workers was from there so we just hopped a plane and flew up for the day and one night to party with her friends. I didn't get to see the city unfortunatley but I did get to visit several bars. I was amazed at how there were little bars on just about every block of the neighborhood she was from.
I think I haven't seen Pittsburg in 35 years so I appreciate the tour through your eyes.
You took some great shots for sure.
Can't wait to meet you.
