Male House Finch - seeking a mate

I had to go out and test my new Canon S5 IS and was lucky enough to get this little fellow to stay in one spot so I could catch a series of pictures, as he calls out for a mate.

Warble, warble! And such a pretty warble, too.

 

I'm still lookin' for ya, sweetie!

 

Are ya over there???

Alright.. gonna wind up and yell again... I know you be out there, sweet one!

 

Mid warble, puffed up and fluffy!

 

Well... I'm going to hang out here, just a bit longer. Too many trees, so little time!!!

That sure is a fat one! I just got a little sample set of wildlife cards, and the house finch was one of the ones I selected. We sure like to have them around, but they are also a very skittish bird. Some years they try to nest above our enclosed garage light, but usually give up as people are always going through the breezeway. If only the English sparrows weren't so pugnacious, they'd probably feel more welcome! Thanks for posting this and hope Cupid is kind to this one.

If you whistle they will talk for quite a while. And even come to look for you.
There is a couple that built a nest in my porch. They constantly talk to me. And come quite close if I am right inside at the screen.

We had a pair nest on our front porch for a few years...before the feral cats moved in. They make such pretty song.

As for my camera, I like it a lot better than the Kodak Z650. There's a lot about it, that is beyond my comprehension... the manual settings... but, overall I'd rate it a 9 out of 10, for my general needs and purposes.

I took these along the drive around the Condos. It's in town and yeah... it's pretty OK here. I'd rather live out of town though. Sigh.
