I don't see most people putting their hand over the hearts when the national anthem is played or sung. When we moved to a small town in Oklahoma in the mid-1970s, at a Fourth of July parade, I saw people remove their caps and put their hands over their hearts as the flag passed by, and I realized I hadn't seen that done in many years.

This sounds to me like the start of one of the smear campaigns that always pop up before elections.

There is another video out there,..slow mo,..he's not singing,....watch it all the way through....I think if it's the same video,....the other people are not singing all the way through,..can't for some reason get the video to work,..oh well,..maybe tomorrow.

Lots of people do not put their hands over their hearts for the National Anthem. It's not a requirement. Those that don't aren't in violation of anything. I went and looked at this clip. He was singing the song right along and applauded after like everyone else did. I have found that so much about Obama has been spread that isn't true or factual. I am not an Obama supporter, being Republican, but I don't see how this sort of thing can help. To me, it would be like saying I was going to vote for someone because they were handsome/pretty or wouldn't vote for them cause they weren't handsome/pretty. The things that should matter are platforms, plans for changes and their records. namaste

I've seen a picture but not the video. In this case I think I would have to give him the benefit of the doubt, because he does seem to be getting into the spirit of the song by singing along and applauding at the end, something the others did not. I will not vote for him, but I don't know what to think from the video.

I really think putting your hand over your heart is a sign of respect to our country. Doesn't matter to me if regular people do, but if you are going to be the president, I think it does matter as it is respect. It does brings concerns to me, this is not a good sign. I don't think it was a wise move on his part.

I heard today that Obama plans to raise the taxes in America, and I think that will hurt his chances of election more though. People vote with their wallet's in mind.

I think it would be interesting if Obama became president. I have a feeling though anything he decided to do would be blamed on either his being "black" or his being "white".

Both Obama and Hillary will need more security as being a first non white man president -nuts will come out of the woodwork trying to get infamy for ending their presidency and their lives. As far as McCain goes, he has cheated death so many times, his nine lives might be up...

This amazing thing of this whole process no matter what happens is that so many have come out in support of Obama and no other time in American History could this have happened. I hope it means that racism is dying out forever!

Okay, the link works. Yeah, it does look bad, considering that the others in the video DO have their hands on their chests.

Now, the way I see it, the "hand over the heart" thing is merely traditional. Could it be that Barack is demonstrating his resolve to bring about change? Just because everyone else does it that way doesn't mean that HE should, right?

I think that Witch Hunts, Rumors, and Speculations are dangerous. I recall a man by the name of Jesus of Nazareth that was put to death in the same manner by the same kinds of charges as what is being done here. I think that people need to take a good look at themselves and question just why they are doing what they are doing.

Actually, I've heard the explanation for why he won't wear the goofy lapel pin - it might be related to why he won't do the flag saluting nonsense. Someone asked him if not wearing the pin was a fashion statement, and he replied, basically, that people have used things like flag pins to replace true patriotism. (Here's the source.) I would suppose, if someone asked, he'd probably put the falutin' salutin' in the same category -- false patriotism.

Actually, I looked up the U.S. Codes yesterday, and it is required or recommended to put one's hand over one's heart when the flag passes by or the national anthem is played.

It's amazing what a furor can be raised during an election year. Hillary voted FOR the War! To me, that's a lot worse than whether or not she knows where to place her hand in public.

I never was going to vote for him anyway. And - I never will!
