Hiya, Gather! Yes, this is written from a hotel room about fifteen minutes from our home, which is currently in the process of being de-molded. Then tomorrow an insurance guy has to come out and look at it (to determine what they feel like paying, I imagine), and I presume something will happen involving contractors and repairing the gigantic hole between the bathroom and master bedroom, replacing our shower, etc.
Considering that our house has been giving us breathing problems, it's nice that it's getting fixed, and it's nice to not have to live there during the proceedings. Still, it took three days to get back on the Internet in any serious capacity. ::wry grin:: So I've got a lot of catching up to do with Gather groups and similar things, and (as I'm sharing a laptop with L, on a wireless connection that relies on a satellite dish not being out of alignment, apparently) an uncertain amount of time to do it in.
How've you all been? Hopefully, not too bad, and everything's fairly mellow where you are. Me, I'm contemplating life, the universe, and everything. Aside from the aforementioned problems, I've got a cranky Worker's Comp person or something to look forward to on Monday. See, I see a doctor every week whose apparent job it is to make sure that, why yes it still hurts when I lift things. Yippee. I was supposed to go last Tuesday -- but a main road on the route there flooded. So I called in and rescheduled for Thursday. On Thursday... we spent the day waiting around for / dealing with insurance calls for the house, so I called in to reschedule my appointment. After noting that I'd rescheduled twice in one week, they put me on hold so that they could put on the lady who apparently handles Worker's Comp-related yappery -- mostly so that she could inform me that they're going to have to inform the insurance company that I've rescheduled twice. Terrific. Not like I've had a lot of choice in the matter. Still, it means I approach my next appointment with a certain degree of trepidation, because insurance companies always try to mess you over. I'm not looking forward to my next physical therapy appointment either - because last time they had 'pulling weights' as part of their regimen, and no amount of ice helped that not hurt. And, y'know, this week has been pretty stressful all around (not to mention light on medication, because that's run out), so... yeah. It's gonna be another fun week.
And also, I'm supposed to be out looking for technical institutes to apply to and whatnot for my Vocational Rehab. I'm pretty sure what I want to apply for and where - they gave two options, and one doesn't have a website, which seems like a bad sign of their purported technical skills - so now I just have to go chasing after them to find things out. And, of course, I don't have a real phone number at the moment because we're not at home, and our cell phone works sporadically at best, so... bah and bah again.
So in short, I'm at a hotel, I'm supposed to be dealing with worker's comp insurance, medical treatments, unemployment, and vocational rehabilitation this week, and I'm writing from a laptop in a hotel bed that feels just stiff enough to tick my back off. Not that I mind having a nice, airy room to relax in... but there's so much that needs to be done that it's hard to relax and enjoy it.
Laura and I've been talking about royalties and music lately - she wrote an article about it recently, which can be read in its entirety here, but thinking about it is getting to me, so I'm going to try to finish what I'm writing about it before I do my other stuff.
Anyhow, looking forward to being back online in a greater capacity soon!

As for your home being demolded, that's a good site better than you and your lovely wife growing webbed feet or having breathing or other problems from being flooded.
Stay dry and get well soon!

It sounds as if your life may begin to improve this week. Okay, maybe not improve but at least change. I hope for you that these bureaucracies/goverment agencies can get their acts together and you will soon move into a mold-free house (free of any expenses for you), not hurt any more, and get your unemployment issues moving along smoothly!
Try to keep positive. I know it's tough with all that's going on, but if you keep positive, it will all get better!
Ok, I've said my piece. Now - I'm sorry that you are going through such a rough patch. Stay positive and enjoy the hotel room (and don't miss that appointment with workers comp).
And I feel for you re: your other difficulties. Nothing worse than dealing with bureaucracies.
