A Photogenic Female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (Photo Essay)

My most recent visit to Brookgreen Gardens was on October 19th. I've been lucky to have seen a lot of wildlife during my visits. This time, a female ruby throated hummingbird put on a little show for me. Here are a few of the numerous photos I shot of her.

The photos were shot with a Sony Cybershot DSC H3 that had no conversion lens attachment. No edits except adding a border and slight cropping of the image directly below.

Until you've actually tried to take a photo (or 100) of a hummingbird, it's hard to appreciate how difficult it is to get any good shots.

So I'm pretty proud of these. Look at all the pollen on her beak, lol!

i am so surprised that you get such good pics of these little guys. They move so fast but they are so beautiful. I love hummingbirds and seeing them is not something I have the pleasure of very often so I enjoy seeing your pics of them.

Wonderful captures!!! My mom gets hummingbirds at her clematis but I have never been able to get a shot! Great job!

Wow! You got great pictures. I've tried to get pictures of hummingbirds a few times and they look nothing like this. Great captures!

I only saw one humming bird this year, it was movine about two thousand mile an hour. Those lilttle things can really move.. neat pictures thanks for sharing..

Good work, Marianne! It takes a lot of patience to get even 3 good shots of a Hummingbird flitting around.

Amazing pictures! I know when I was in Texas, the hummers would fight over the feeders I kept out - I would sit so still trying to get great shots & only ended with a few ok ones.
