I have seen mention about comparing prices when you shop. This is something I always do. Plus, I have taught my husband how to do this. He knows how it works and has picked up on it pretty well. I was able to test my husband the other day to see if he was doing this when I did not go shopping with him.
I was able to snap these pictures with my Metro ZTE cellphone. I am sure people in the store thought I was nuts. But that is okay.
We went down the soup isle. First we notice the 3/$5.00 deal.

We looked further down towards the bottom self and seen a package of four cans of mushroom soup for 4/$5.19

We ended up getting the four cans or $5.19. As we realized we would get the tree cans for the same price. But the fourth can for 19 cents. What a deal!!
Which do you think was the better deal? Which oen would you have chosen? Do you compare prices when shopping?

i always compare when i shop, i would have gotten the second deal also, you get one can almost free....
Yeah, almost free is just as good in my opinion. Lol.
good article
Thank you.
Also look at how many ounces it is. Sometimes when you think you're getting a deal, you're not because it has less in it.
Your right about that. I do check the ounces to. My husband and I always brings a calulater along just in case.
One day I plan on takin a calulater while h has one. He will be keepng track of what we will be spending. While I will adding up the higher price on things. Just to see how much we do save when buying this wy.
Good tips ,Mini.
Thank you. I hope it can help someone else out
Yes I do compare prices, I have to save where I can!
sometimes I go by the price and sometimes by the brand. I've gotten food I didn't like sometimes on sale. I like Campbells soup the best.
Yes, I do that as well. there are certain brands that my family likes. For those i just wait til thy go on sale to stock up and use than find acoupon to use.
Such as : Ben & Jerry's ice cream. I was able to get buy one get one free deal. Plus I had a dollar of coupon. So, that brought the price down from $4.00 a piece down to & 1.50 a piece.
Wow, that is a huge savings! Congratulations!
I have just started to do compare shopping and using coupons. I used to walk in the store and pick up what I wanted and buy it. now I think about money more and how to save.
oh and great article.
That is good that you are doing that. You will start to see a savings. I really like the stores that tell me how much I saved at the end of register reciept.
I always look at the unit price to find the best deal
We compare prices, too. I know what the regular prices are on most of our favorite items even, and then stock up when they are on sale.
We use a calculator (usually the one on our phones) to check the price per ounce, too.
Thats how my husband and I do it to.Aren't those calulators mighty hand with phones?
I too check the price per ounce with my calculator:)
Our store shows the price per unit, or ounce or pound or whatever the product goes by. I price compare EVERYTHING!
I never buy any campbells soup except for the condensed tomato, but I would never pay more than $.90 for a can. Usually I shoot for buying it on sale. I wonder why they charge less for MORE packaging (the plastic wrapper around the four cans). It seems like they are promoting wastefulness.
Wow, that was a good catch Minipin I don't think I would have caught that one. They are sneaky with prices, aren't they? You did great, and what a timely lesson for all of us!
yes I do, it take me an hour before I go to the store to see who has what deals or not,,, then we compare prices as we shop in doing this we save over 20 to 30 dollars a trip
I would have gotten the 4 cans
Really good thing to point out!
You have to watch those marketing gimmics. Here Albertson's has been running this big ad campaign that they were lowering prices. The problem is that they raised them, just before the lowered them. They are trying to look like they are giving you great deals, but I feel that it is a scam.
The front page of their ad last week touted the great deal that they had on soup. Campbells for 89cents, "you save X number of cents!" The only problem is that 1. CVS had them on sale for 50 cents and 2. the price at Albertsons two weeks ago was 89 cents! They just raised the price, so that they would look good when they lowered it this week.
The stores do that very often don't they? It is very important to know the best price for an item, if you really want to save.
I do compare prices when shopping. However, I almost never buy soup; it's usually cheaper and healthier to make my own.
I always have my calculator with me so that I can calculate and compare cost after coupons with store brands etc.
This is very relavant thanks
Excellent article! I always make the comparisons, and I carry a calculator along with my reusable bags and coupons to the store.
