We decided to take a trip to Bird Island at Sunset Beach in Calabash, NC. This is only about 35 miles from where we live in Myrtle Beach, SC and it sounded really interesting in the article we read on the web. You have to go over a little one lane bridge to get to Sunset Beach which is right off the marsh and beach.
Well, it really wasn't so interesting, a nice trip but we didn't see many birds. We were looking for an actual Bird Island. We were told it was down the beach about a half mile, but we didn't see anything different than the place we pulled up to in the first place. I got a few interesting photos. A beach is never boring afterall, but we were expecting something like Huntington Beach State Park that I write about here in SC, or even something like Murrells Inlet. This is what we found on our adventure.
The one lane bridge we had to cross.

Sunset Beach

This is mostly a vacation town by the looks of it. I suppose it is crowded starting in June. Here are some of the things from nature I did manage to find. The flowers and cactus were part of gardens in the neighborhood.

One bush must have had a family of anoles, we saw quite a few of these little guys.

Some lucky person owns this.

We finally did find a few birds.

And an Oyster bed.

Maybe it's better in the summer, but I don't think we'll take a trip back to find out. I must say the beach was very nice and clean.

Thank you for posting your photo essay at Pretty Pictures.
I've never seen an oyster bed, either, so that was interesting! Did you notice in the picture with the foam cresting the waves, that some of the foam looked like a stick figure running?? That was neat!
