Filipino parties provide me with great photo opportunities. We tend to get together as families, bringing everybody together in one place with lots and lots of food, fun and laughter. My friend Vera's house is the regular choice for our parties. She has a nice big place... and a pool.
While reviewing my pictures recently, I noticed a happy coincidence. I've managed to capture several pictures involving mothers with their babies. Yeah, I know... procreative bunch. I don't know how they do it, working full time as nurses and taking care of their families. I wanted to share these pictures to attest to the fact that from my country comes some of the loveliest women and cutest babies in the world.

It's too cute not to include this picture, the lone guy in the group... Ray with Holly

And here's our beautiful Madonna-in-waiting, Brenda. She's due any time now.

Will check back later!
My friends are beautiful, aren't they? And their babies are just as beautiful. And yes, they grow too fast. From one celebration to the next, they seem to change faster than I want!
You fulfilled your goal very well. They are beautiful.
Confession: I've always thought Asian women to be the most beautiful in the world. I've always wanted to have an Asian baby of my own to play with. I think they look like ceramic dolls. I would be thrilled if one of my kids managed to get me one for my own grandchild!
and you know the food at your gatherings are totally incredible!
Well, it would be a long way to swim....
I know I'm supposed to comment on the beauteousness of the babes of various ages and sizes--I just thought I'd share my opinion that I think that sort of statement is unnecessary. Anyone reading this either already approves of Filipino immigrants, or they don't, and "we're all legal and good citizens" won't change their minds.
stunning.
my girl's pregnant right now; i pray to be so fortunate-- but the apples fall not far from the tree, not far at all, and my darling is beautiful...
Just yesterday, my grandson confided in me that the parents of a girl he was interested in told their daughter that she should know better than associate herself with a "black boy".
I have a stupid question. Why are Filipinos from the Philippines? I mean why is one spelled with an F and the other with a Ph?
That sort of stuff makes you crazy when trying to teach geography.
You can't win. I'll be a bit more specific: trying to present ourselves as "the good immigrants" as opposed to the implied "bad ones" feels a bit like trying to suck up to a slave master to land a house slave position. If we talk like that, we just feed the prejudices of the anti-immigrant crowd and provide them with a convenient shield to hide their xenophobia behind. ("It's not that I hate immigrants, look, there's Duckie who came here legally and I have no problem with her, but I bet you anything that Maria is illegal, just look at her, they all are, and I don't care that Pedro was brought here when he was six months old, the law is the law, deport him back to wherever he came from, civil war or not, we can't solve the problems of the whole world...."
Okay, you can probably tell I read too much of that crap. Sorry.
However, there is no PH in the Spanish language, (King Philip was probably referred to as Felipe)... So, when the Spaniards referred to the Philippinos, they pronounced the word as Filipinos. In the Spanish language , when a word is borrowed from another language, they keep the pronunciation close to the original, and then spell it according to Spanish spelling rules. PH becomes F.
It has carried on to this day.
As an aside, you will find that because of the lack of the P sound in our language, a percentage of Filipinos have a quirky language trait... the P and F sounds become interchangeable in their speech patterns. For example, a lot of heated interchanges tend to spiral down to comedic events when an angry participant throws in a "puck you" ... and don't ask some of us to say "parting is such sweet sorrow", either.
Thanks for stopping in!
I see what you mean about feeding the prejudices of the anti-immigrant crowds. I never actually saw it in that light.
I always stand in awe at the knowledge and wisdom you impart whenever you discuss things around Gather. I am honored to be your connection and friend.
