I've always wondered why they just shear their midsection. Is the other wool lesser quality, take forever to grow to a good length or just cosmetic for show purposes?

They absolutely don't like it. They have wool, and part of the reason for shearing is the heat. They also get sheared like that for showing. Llamas are not suppose to be fat. I like the way they look before they're sheared.

Cindy do you do this yourself? We had 10 alpacas sheared yesterday. I want to stay in touch with you but have trouble finding your articles I do not know my way around gather that well..He is a beautiful animal.

So - what is the market for llama wool? I read that Alpaca wool will pay for the food, etc., for each year. Are Alpacas a type of llama, or are they a separate critter (they look kinda like each other from ads, etc., I've seen, but I've never read up to find out if there's a difference). K is telling me that if I want to and can demonstrate a market for it, we might get into farming them, if we have enough acreage...
