Over the weekend we went to Key West. We had free tickets to ride a boat down from Fort Myers so that saved a lot of money. Then we stayed at the cheapest place we could find to stay in.
We had a great time, and while there we went to the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory. They had 50-60 varieties of butterflies from all over the world and a few birds too. It was in this big greenhouse with tons of tropical plants. It was really warm and humid in the glass room we were in, but it was so amazing seeing all of the butterflies. There were OVER 1000 butterflies in the conservatory. Some of them were HUGE too!!
Before entering we had no idea how many butterflies there were going to be and figured we would see one here and there but not that they would be everywhere.... Each of us had one land on us while there too, which was really cool. Maddie was sort of freaked out at first about the one that landed on her but then after it flew away she wanted it back. lol.
Here are a few of the pics that I took in the butterfly house:
When we first walked thru the doors there were tons of these butterflies. This photo was a bit dark but I really like it because you can see the shadow of a butterfly flying by in the bottom right corner!

I thought this one was really cool because it looks like he has a head at the back of his wings

and this one was one of my favorite butterflies:

This moth was so cool and HUGE too.

David with the butterfly on his head:

This next one David took and I cropped it a bit to cut most of myself out of the photo. Notice the worried look on Maddies face as she looks at the butterfly on her leg..

Maddie sitting on the Butterfly bench. See the butterfly next to her, it is just an orange blob in the photo though...

That is most of my butterfly shots. I hope you all enjoyed my butterfly photo essay! Thanks for reading it and looking at my pics!

We are going to OLBRECHT this month and I HOPE to catch some butterflies there. :)
thank you for the great share!
I have always wanted to visit a butterflie emporium but never got the chance.
Just last night as a matter of fact I was dreaming about opening my own here in lovely Montana. I don't have the money or the skills and knoledge that it would take to get it off the ground right now but it is a good thing to dream.
I wonder what the initial investment would be.
Great photos! Thank you for taking me along.
