Babies in the Spring~

At the end of our backyard is a drainage pipe that allows water to go into the lake. The foxes are using this as their den. The foxes have been mating out back this week, so with any luck we will have babies this spring. They also have been marking this as their teritory for awhile now. So with any luck I will be able to get photos of kits this spring.

That first picture of the female fox is just gorgeous. I've never seen one in real life that close. She is a real beauty. Will they overrun your property?

Katherine, I wondered if anyone would catch the true nature shot. LOL The pipe is used but it won't fill unless we have a heavy rain in July and the kits will be big enough by then. From what I have read she will have them in March and she will not let them out for about eight weeks, so they should be out by the time we have heavy rains. Even when the snow melts it is only a trickle through the pipe. I sure hope I can get some shots of the babies.

Nanina, what beautiful pictures! I can't wait to see the kits this spring. When the foxes visited our yard at the old house. I named them Fred and Ginger because she was the most beautiful shade of ginger I had ever seen. Wish I had gotten the kind of shots you have. Congratulations! Great work!

To answer a few questions, in the first photo he is up on our back porch. He was maybe 17 feet away. The second she was at the backyard so maybe 40 feet. The couple were down by the lake, so maybe 50 feet from the house.

Ellie, in the bottom photo they were finished mating, but they were still tied together. They are like dogs and cat when mating. They will be protective if they have kits. My aussie has chased the foxes, so if they have kits he will not be allowed out back without being leashed. The foxes run from him, but with babies they would not. They could hurt him so that is a concern.

All of your fox photos are amazing!! I see them trot through my yard occasionally, but they are not often seen. I know they are around when the rabbit population diminishes. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that you are able to have lots of photos of the kits!

I just saw the Gratitude Campaign film. It literally brought tears to my eyes. My brother-in-law just made it back from Iraq. He was one of the lucky ones. Unharmed. Only there less than a year. We don't know if he will go back yet or not. You are right. This is not about politics, this is about the servicemen and women doing their jobs, which in this case means going to fight a horrible war. And for that I really am grateful to them, though I wouldn't ever send them to it. I truly believe wars should be fought by the older generations. I did not have a child to send off to fight for me. If I feel the need to fight I would feel it my moral duty to fight myself and give her a chance to have her life.
