Cooking Shows ?

Top Chef - They judge more on food creativity and making the food work in certain boundries.

I haven't had a chance to watch a full episode of either, however from what I've seen of Hell's Kitchen I'd agree that it has become more "reality" show based.

I do watch cooking shows with Bobby Flay,
Paula Deane, Emeril Lagossi, Rachel Raye
and many others. Iron chef America is the
one I love to watch the most. Well all the
'Cook Offs' bar-b-ques and others are also
right up there on my fav's list. Every one
seems to make everything look so easy
to prepare, cook and serve!

I aggree I also like Bobby Flays (Throwdown) show.

Top Chef is definitely better at showcasing people who actually know how to cook. I don't understand how the "chefs" on Hell's Kitchen are selected, these people could not surrive in a real, high -end restaurant ( What was the deal with that "cryin' Hawaiian"). Most do not display the knowledge or temperment of a professional chef able to run a kitchen. It seems that the producers choose one or two people who actually have some talent and surround them with unqualified people for Gordon to make fun of and yell at. That being said, I still watch it. I'm pulling for Julia, the short order cook - she's got guts and plenty of the skills necessary to get food out to the customers. She can learn the cuisine as she goes along. I hate how the other women presume to judge her and underestimate her- What a bunch of snobs. Top Chef is fun to watch because the contestants show creativity and knowlege of their craft while still being entertaining. It's great to see what they will come up with. To me it is the more intelligent of the two shows. In case you can't tell, I'm an avid viewer of both:)

We don't have cable, so no Food Network or Bravo, and the transmitter for our Fox channel was moved out of range of our antenna, so no Hells Kitchen (though my sister-in-law is recording t for me to see later). What I do get and adore are cooking shows on PBS with Ming Tsai, Mark Bittman, Todd English, Joanne Weir, Michael Chiarello, etc. They are very entertaining and quite passionate about their food.

susan last year my girlfriend took me to Boston for my B-day and we went to a restaurant called Bonfire, it is a Todd English restaurant all his restaurants are unbelievable . The food was outstanding and the decor of the restaurant was also remarkable going with the theme bonfire.

I liked Iron Chef...it was so...odd.

darn tv is downstairs. one day....I'll get to watch these shows.

Anyone remember the old Galloping Gourmet?

I usually only watch the Food Network shows.

I've never watched Hells Kitchen but I do watch Top Chef. Some of that food scares me.

I used to love the Galloping Gourmet! I used to watch him when I was home sick from school! Julia Child was a lot of fun to watch, too.

Does anyone remember Pasquale? At the beginning of the show, he would be peddling around on his bike. And I think he drank on air too.

I prefer Top Chef. They are in Miami this season..
And otherwise, I watch Barefoot Contessa

I don't watch cooking shows too often...but when I do, it's Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals

excellent show, perfect recipes for families.

None of those shows are about cooking. Not the ones you mentioned and not the Food Network. They are all about ratings and celebrity; for cooking take a class.

Thats like saying the NFL isn't about football !!!

Does anyone watch "America's Test Kitchen"? They're all about cooking and comparing real products for value and quality. They have excellent recipes; although they tend to have many steps to them, the end results are always great.

what network is that program on?

It's on PBS, I'm not sure what day its on because I tivo it. You can also check out some of their recipes on their website www.americastestkitchen.com They will only allow the recipes for the current season to be viewed without subscribing- Try the Crisp-Skin High-Roast Butterflied Chicken with Potatoes -it's wonderful. My family wants me to make it every week now.

I watch food network. I love Emeril Alive, and cake decorating shows best.

I have not seen top Chef but I do like Hells Kitchen.. but the people this time really drive me crazy! What was up with Aaron and what is up with Melissa and her soul patch I wish she would go home! Are you interested in the new tv show fixing to come out with Chef Ramsey going to others restraunts and turning them around?

I watch Top Chef and think the people cooking this year are good. My favorite season is number 1. The second season wasn't very good to me.

I am so glad that Melissa got the boot on Hell's Kitchen! What was with all that hair hanging all over the place- very unprofessional. Now, if Bonnie would stop whining and looking like a deer caught in headlights and just cook, we might be down to a group of actual contenders (though I don't hold out much hope for Josh).
