I had wanted to go camping over the 4th of July, but we have opted not to do that. I've toyed with the idea of a BBQ for some of our friends who live up north still. I went ahead and talked with Nick today, and we've decided to go ahead and do it.
I invited our friends- hopefully they can make it. If not, it'll just be like last year- us and the kids, grilling out, and having a camp fire. Nothing wrong with that! Since moving to the area, we have sat out from 4th of July fireworks. An area not far from here does fire works on the 3rd, so we went to those the past two years. No one nearby does fireworks on the 4th, except downtown Lansing- and that's just way too crowded for me.
I'll have to make up some potato salad, get burgers and hot dogs and buns, and some watermelon and popsicles for it. Because they drive from way up north, it usually winds up as an over night stay.
I'm excited! I want to stop at Dollar Tree soon and pick up some cheap outdoor decorations. I have a set of red, white, and blue twinkle lights already that we can use, too.
What are your plans for the 4th of July?

hopefully my bosses wife will score us tickets to the Daytona 400! Nascar baby!!!
Oh, that'd be fun! I hope he's able to!
We don't have any plan's yet. =)
I hope whatever you choose to do, you have fun!
What are you thinking allowing the children to attend?! LOL!
We are going to spend the day together as a family. We will probably have a BBQ with Stephy's best-friend's family. I think we are going to to go the amusement park and watch their fireworks and ride some rides!
ROFL- I know, we should just lock the kids in the attic. ;)
The amusement park sounds fun. We've done that a few times, back when Chris was a baby, and before Rae was born. It was fun, but too busy for me now days. Too many people and I get all panicky.
It souns like a great way to celebrate. I don't think we will be doing anything special, and we will definitely stay away from the crowds.
I love letting the kids experience things like the 4th, but the crowds just are not my idea of a good time anymore. Last year, the neighbors behind us had some small fountain type fireworks that we could see from our camp fire. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, and just relaxed. No crowds, no late night drives in congested traffic. It was just nice!
The year before, we were in an apartment. We did some sparklers, and watched a guy light a few fountains, but nothing else. Last year was much more enjoyable.
We went to the beach in the morning last year, and then we went back to see the fireworks from the beach broadwalk. The latter was a nightmare, as it started raining, there was no parking, there were no seatings in the restaurants etc......this year we will pass:)
Not sure on our plans yet. It will be less than a week before our big road trip by then so I prob will be running around like crazy.
I do want to do something with the girls though, and I was thinking of taking them up to Wisconsin Dells, not sure yet. All of the fam is kind of tired and whipped from all the planned events recently, kinda just want to chill.
As for fireworks, we usually go to three or four shows as every town around us does them and most of the time they do them on different days. There will prob be a show thurs, fri, sat and sun to watch and I love fireworks.
Oh! I know what I was thinking. My bros and I were talking about renting a charter boat and spending the day out on the Lake, watching the firework show out on the water. It would be about $500 though so everyone would have to split it. Not sure yet.
My plans are the smae as usually a family cookout
I will be in the 4th of July parade, will help out running games, and then will stay at home to watch the fireworks.
We are going to be in the Boston area. We are going to drive through Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, so that the only state my dad, my brother, and I have not been to will be Alaska. We will then probably see fireworks in Boston or just chill at the KOA campground.
4th of July is the friend holiday that we do at our house, so we will be having it again this year. Unfortunately we don't have our pool any longer, so all the kids won't have as much fun as they usually do, but we will set up the sprinkler and maybe get a slip and slide.
We'll have BBQ at a friends like we normally do every year.
We did what we call a "wild hair" trip to Daytona the day after hubby got a fireworks catalogue in the mail. He takes the 4th so VERY seriously. LOL. We spent $320 but got probably over $1,000 worth of stuff if we had waited and bought it here in a tent sale nearer to the 4th. Not what I would spend but it is his one major yearly splurge and it makes him so happy. :) Plus the kids just love it and it means we can have our fireworks show right here and interact with the neighbors (the "normal" ones, anyway) and if the baby hates it I can bring her inside for a break, rather than be stuck somewhere in a field with a crowd.
The only plans I have so far are to take pictures of any fireworks I can see from my yard.
None yet...have fun!
Spanky Pants, Gonna be a family 4th ,grill out .Nothing fancy , the whole crowd usually put their feet under the table.
We'll probably go to the little beach by our house if it's nice then bbq in the backyard with whomever chooses to join us :) Sometimes my SIL has a pool party but I'm not fond of traveling or going to major fireworks displays on the 4th - it is much too crowded. I like to watch the fireworks from our yard, we always have someone setting them off in the neighborhood.
We are going camping with some friends in the mountains for the weekend.
Fun plans!
We will be taking our daughter to the airport, she is flying to Texas to spend the month of July with friends down there. After that...maybe we will go to my sister's house and grill & maybe go fishing~
We haven't decided for sure yet. We've been thinking about going to the base picnic, but I'm not sure if Elliott is ready for that yet. There will be a lot of people, and I'm sure several of them will be drinking...
If we don't do that, we'll just stay at home. My husband will do some smaller fireworks, and he'll grill. That's what we did last year. If our neighbor is home, we'll invite him over, otherwise it will just be us.
We will go to the parade in Fenton, MI then usually we swim at my aunts and put the kids down for a nap. Then head in to Holly for the fireworks.
I think our fourth will be boring sitting at home doing nothing
I'm going to do this particular 4th in the most traditional way I can: Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, corn on the cob, blueberry pie and strawberry shortcake. Not a whif of gorgonzola, narry a taste of smoked duck breast - I'm strictly red, white and blue this 4th.
