You would have to be blind not to have noticed the changes to Gather made late last night, or to see the backlash it has caused with the local gatherites. Some people are disgrunteld, others are annoyed, some are downright hostile, while still others are confused over the changes made.
Personally, I don't love the changes, but I find I have no annoyance, no disgruntlement, no hostilities, and no confusion over the site. I was a bit thrown at first, but it took all of 5 minutes for me to figure out that with an extra click here or there, I can still see the exact same things I could see before, just with a new layout.
The pages do require a bit of extra work here and there, but not so much that the site is impossible to navigate. Or that I would leave Gather over it. I like Gather, I like the people I meet here. I enjoy the conversations. Yes, I also enjoy the points- though honestly, I'd probably still stick around without the points. Not that I want them gone, just that I enjoy the site even without taking the points into consideration.
One complaint I've heard is being unable to view a persons pictures. Ok, I figured that one out easily after a minute or two. Go to their page. At the top, in the orange bar, click "Images", and it will take you to see all of their images. Or videos. Or articles.
Want to see the most recent articles your connections have written? Go to "My Gather", and click the 2nd drop down menu to reflect "Articles", and only the articles will show up on your first page. The same goes for images, comments, etc.
And you have the added bonus of being able to see 20 articles, images, or videos, rather than the 4 or 5 from before. Without having to open new windows and waiting for it to load.
I guess I don't understand the uproar. In the past, when changes have been made, there's been an uproar, but most people have it figured out and start enjoying it within a few days.
So, I recommend just giving it a few days. Maybe you won't like it any more in 3 days. Maybe you will, though. In the mean time, give it time rather than ripping a new one to the Gather staff, and stomping around. Put the effort into figuring it out that so many are putting into pouting over it, and you may just find you like it.
