Barack Hussein Obama

I've never heard him complain about his middle name. It is the media that is making a big deal out of it.

Thank you for saying this. He and his wife have been claiming all week that it is a racist attack to use his middle name. I say he claims everything is an unfair racist attack. If he is proud of his name then use it. What has he got to hide?

Maybe they are afraid people will be offended by that middle name? So Be It. There are a lot more reasons to vote against that man and that is one of the least.

He is in favor of a UN tax on Americans. That is reason enough. I wondered why a first term freshman Senitor was running for President and now I know. He has the backing of CFR and Bilderburg.

I see somebody hit the rating because they are cowards who can't handle the truth. I never heard this. We support the UN with our tax dollars as their diplomats commit crimes and are protected. I'd never vote for him now. Gosh, it's going down the tubes.

As babies we do not get to chose what our name will be. As adults we can chose which of the three names our parents gave us that we want to be called by. After college, I chose to drop my first name and introduce myself by my middle name. I think I have the right to decide which name I want to be known by. I am not ashamed of my first name, but if given a choice on the day that the names were given out. I would have chosen Michael. Three years ago I started introducing myself by my last name-Harvey- and am always amazed when people see my business card (Michael Harvey), they say, "Oh I thought you said your name was Harvey." Well it is. Of what value does a name given to Senator Obama at birth have on his ability to serve this nation as president. Absolutely none. He had no choice in deciding who his parent would be, just like you or anyone else on gather or the planet for that matter. Had he gone to the legal process and changed his name by removing the middle name, then you would have some to say he is covering up his middle name. Oh, we can't trust him. This would have been a simple matter for a lawyer like Sen. Obama to do. But he did not go that route. The name is out there for all to see. The name Hussein is as common in the culture of Sen. Obama's father as Milhouse or Fitzgerald or Jefferson is in Anglo-Saxon culture. So why should the media reference him by a name that he did not select merely because the Bush Administration told American's that they needed to hate a depot with that name to make it acceptable to invade that country, hang the dictator and give us access to all the oil that we can buy at $100 barrel.

I agree with Michael, his middle name shouldn't help or hurt his presidency running. I personally just don't like the guy, but until now I didn't even know his middle name. It doesn't make me dislike him anymore though.

His middle name doesn't offend me, what really bothers me is that he uses it a way to whine. He is always whining about something, a picture of him in Kenyan dress, or that someone called him on a misquote in a flyer he mailed to people in Ohio. Politics to tough and he should take the same heat as any other politician. Certainly Senator Clinton has been scrutinized enough and had her cheatin' husband exposed to the world. Then she gathered up her dignity and moved forward. That is true character and a real ability to handle what ever comes your way. To Obama, I say, stop complaining and stand up for your name and your heritage. To me it is more like he is hiding his African and Muslim heritage. That is the what bothers me about him and I would not vote for him.

For me, a person's middle name isn't significant (I don't even have one!) I'm not saying whether I like him or not, but I do know that there is an enormous amount of information about him that we do not know of, and I think a lot of people are afraid to question him for fear of being labeled a racist.

If he is already whining about the use of his middle name, what is it going to be like if he does get into office, Is he going to break down and cry such as Hilly did? I have always said, that Libs or Dems are whiners. I guess this makes my point..... wah, wah, wah.

I see nothing wrong with Obama's middle name, people just might have to get used to saying it. I think a lot of people use it to fan rumors that he Muslim which I personally don't buy and to create fear in order to achieve their political objective which is to win the election anyway possible. He has shown more Christian traits than I do by working in an area of Chicago, that I wouldn't set foot in as a community organizer because of the high crime. It takes a dedicated person to do something like that.

I live in a very diverse area near Chicago and we have all sorts of names and religions here. When Obama was standing on the street corners of Chicago handing out flyers I have to admit I did a double take when I was handed one on the southside of Chicago and I'm African American. I thought Barack Who? Then I got more info and said OK, I can vote for this guy and that just may happen around America.

BTW I have a have a middle name that is English in origin and I never use it in business because I don't like it. I never use it when signing documents either including signing checks.

I don't trust Obama and it isn't because of his middle name. With it or without I'm suspicious of the man. The media says that if you use his middle name you're implying something against him. Totally ridiculous, it's his name and he should be proud of it instead of telling people they shouldn't use it. Something is very wrong with this man.

I hate my middle name. It is the name of a church. I don't use it. But if I wanted to be president, I'd have to use it. And I'd be unhappy but not ashamed.

I think it's because of the T-shirts the Republicans are selling with him in a turban smoking a photoshopped cigar and listing his last name as Hussein, right next to the Comrade Clinton shirts. Maybe they should offer him a percentage of the profits for using his likeness and name to sell their products?

From now on maybe we should refer to him as Barack Millhouse Obama. Pretty soon the media will probably add Saint before his name. I think it is so hysterical that Saturday Night Live, which is been widely known for political satire since its first show, should even take flak from criticising the media's attitude about him. I do agree that the name shouldn't matter, but then why do they make such a big deal about it?

A name is a name is a name. Names are what you make of them, not what other people make of them. Hillary's middle name is not Rodham though That's her maiden name. Her middle name is Diane.

They my friend are the Republicans and perhaps one of them-Republicans in the gather community-will answer that question for you.

Being a person who dislikes my middle name, I can understand. If my middle name was Hussain I'd have it legally change. Whho wants to be associated with a terrorist?

People can barely say my first name. About 90% of people get it wrong. They say,
"Can't I call you something else? Huh?"

I say, "Okay, call me, Neet. It's only supposed to be for my family and friends, but go ahead, darn it!"

Uh. I rarely used the middle name of any president. President Clinton was President Clinton. President Ronald Reagan was Ron or Ronald Reagan. I can't even RECALL his middle name.

Personally I was raised (and my kids are) that your middle name is only invoked when you're in trouble, or included for certain forms. You certainly don't use your middle name in every day speech.

Why would it be so upsetting to you that it is not used for a candidate? Is it because you want to create this fear that he is somehow related to Saddam Hussein? Or suggest that he must be a terrible muslim terrorist feeding us special happy messages to delude us into believing he could be president? Hmmm...

Doesn't matter to me. I think he's the best candidate whether or not we use his middle name. Worrying over that is as senseless as thinking that anyone of Arabic descent is out to get us just because of 9/11.

I think that Barack is a savvy politician, and he knows that right now his middle name can be used against him, right or wrong. Not using it or wanting it used limits trivial, cheap attacks like those t-shirts mentioned above.

Bill Clinton was born William Jefferson BYLTHE (Clinton is his step-father's name)- it doean't sound quite as presidential does it? I find Obama's middle and last names ironic, but don't judge him at all for it.
To the person who wrote that Ford was adopted and questioned his biological parents, I am sorry, but what a stupid statement. Many people in my family are adopted- they can not change the circumstances of their birth nor the unknown people that parented them. It is hardy the same thing as a name, which you can change or choose what you are called or not called.

Carol, the question is not "Why can we not use his middle name? " . The question is why is Hussein always included when by his opponents when they say something bad about him? Let's not kid ourselves, we all know why. I posted several times that this is aimed probably not at the type of people who post on gather, maybe that is why you do not see a problem with using Hussein followed by smear. For the trailer park denizens, Hussein Obama or more frequently Hussein Osama can be an effective tool of smear. Are you telling me that Hussein Osama (no mention of Barack) is fine too? GIVE ME A BREAK!
Personally, I like President Obama a lot better than Barack Obama and you might hear that a lot.

I thought "Rodham" was Hillary's maiden name, not her middle name. Besides, she doesn't seem to use that much anymore. She's just Hillary Clinton. I don't even know the middle names of Clinton, McCain, Huckabee...or Ron Paul, John Edwards, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Jackson, Johnson (either one) etc. It's a non-issue.

I find it very interesting that no one wants to attack his black-ness, lest they be called "racist". But it's okay for everyone to attack his middle name because it is associated with Islam--- as if attacking Muslims or Arabs isn't racism. AND nobody has a problem attacking a woman -- misogyny is acceptable!

I think Obama could use this middle name nonesense to his advantage. Can't you just see the commercial? Children from different backgrounds, smiling into cameras -- simply stating their full names -- we would have to end on the candidate, of course... "Names, shouldn't matter."

I think he should embrace his name... it has a positive translation. And, the gist of it is - he's a "jr." for goodness sakes. He has his father's name.

Obama should embrace his name. He's actually using the nuttiness of the far right to profit off it. Poor little old me, abused because of my name.

William Jefferson Clinton should've said he smoked and did everything else he had a chance to do in his youth (his old age too, apparently).

Hilary should show her taxes and proclaim, "Heck, that's a lot of money, ain't it?"

McCain should shout, "I'm a hot head. Deal with it". Eventually, he probably will...

Obama should stand up and say, "My name is Barack (sp) Hussein Obama, Jr. And, I want to be your president.

Then again...that "Jr." just isn't working for me.
