This story is full of heros...from the pilot to the ferrys that took on the passangers...to the passangers who kept everybody calm...to the Coast Guard.

The passengers of that flight must be so happy, every day for the rest of their lives I suspect they will think about this frightening accident that could have ended everything. What an amazing job the pilot did to bring everyone back OK.

Did anyone catch the other possible disaster that was averted:

Because passangers are not allowed to carry knives or anything similar (for obvious reasons), the inflatable life rafts (or those blow up slides at the doors) almost went down with the plane. Thank goodness the ferry boats threw knives to those passengers so they could free themselves from the plane.

If this happened out in the middle of the ocean, they would not have had anything to cut themselves loose and the "life rafts" would sink with the plane.

Its unfortunate that an accident has to occur to point out the obvious.

I don't know anything about cutting loose life rafts, but I do know New York's first responders and the water taxis kicked butt getting over there and rescuing the passengers.
Wild, crazy and thankfully a happy ending.
Only in New York.

i'm glad that nobody was seriously injured in this incident and they were able to raise the plane. Hopefully they will be able to find the engines so the NTSB will be able to determine what really happened.

Wow, this whole story is crazy. My mother's work had a guy up here from N.C. and they knew that plane was one of his options to go home so before any details were out they were totally freaking out. It turns out he was on the plane and they were so relieved to hear everyone was ok.
