My Associated Content about two different print-on-demand companies -- and the recent Amazon broughaha:

All authors need to know about these things -- if nothing else, go to the Lulu.com FAQ pages and STUDY. Your publisher won't be able to pull things on you.
(When I became a publisher I called it "Going to the Dark Side." I WON't publish other people -- that can lead to "Going Asshole.").

That's where I discovered Lulu. So far, I've had no trouble at all with Amazon about my Ghost to Coast books, which were not published with Amazon. I did use CreateSpace to publish T'ain't Nobody's Business If I Do, though.
