This is problematic. I say leave the comments and let people know who the "rude crew" is. This is a group of Gatherers who enjoy posting mean and negative remarks. They editorialize when it's not needed. They name call. They show disrespect for anyone that may have a different opinion. Oh, we know who you are. So, post away. I'll not delete you but I will report you for harassment. Because that what it is: harassment. I have learned not to respond to them. Let others see what they are about. (Yes, I ended that sentence with a preposition.) That last crime should bring one of their kites swooping in. Watch for them in the Gather Night Sky. Watch for them in my comments. Watch for them in my ratings. Why would a picture of a puppy rate less than a 10. Why? It's the "Rude Crew." I did delete one comment from one of the rude crew's group, but from now on I will report them for harassment. Gather is being criticized for allowing us to delete comments. Gather is trying to "Please all of the people all of the time." It can't be done. I will try to abstain from deleting comments unless they are of an insulting nature, but not before I report them. I hope Gather takes harassment reports seriously. I have one in the wings, now.
No names have been used in this article and any resemblance to Gather members living or dead is not coincidental.

freedom of speech.....
I hope you don't delete this,,,lol

ha ha
(that would be my best revenge)
Personally, I wouldn't let this or any other pettiness here on Gather take up any of my time or energy that's really not necessary. There will be critics and haters no matter where you go, virtual or not. This is just a smaller slice of what the real world is about.
Now, if you comment on an article and it's owner gets a wild hair, well, there goes your comments.
FWIW...I will not delete any comments on my articles, so please go and post away...the more the merrier...
Points? Waddayoumean? ;-)
Of couse I can and do relate to the person making the comment but still there is a time and place for everything.
I get personal attacks by one troll frequently. OK I'll leave them up because I have been informed that deleting those remarks just hides the fact that the troll is less than nice. I can only say that if said troll said those things to my face he would be picking himself up off the ground in short order, if I didn't loose my temper.
I'll bet I know what bridge your troll lives under.
best of luck!
Even nudity, we'll handle it. I'm not angry at Gather. They are just trying to please too many people.
There are some good reasons for flagging. Two are plagiarism (copyright abuse) and spam (advertising.) Content that's lifted from another source and represented as the poster's own original work is bad and opens Gather to lawsuits. Using articles to advertise things like money making web sites, freebies, personal services, etc is just plain despicable.
Good for you taking a stand against these idiots Carol!
I love your writing carol..
Perhaps it is true that this person is one who takes pleasure in insulting others.
If the comment had been constructive criticism, rather than harassment strewn with foul language, I probably would have been okay with it on the onset. I didn't mind so much the 1 I got as a rating, assuming that it was what he genuinely felt the article was really worth - I have no way of knowing otherwise.
Overall, I feel that the bulk of all comments received depict the "mood" of the Gather members that happen by. This includes those supportive and opposed, those who feel that an article is worthwhile and those who see it as just another piece of worthless junk on the heap.
I'm still feeling unsure that our ability to arbitrarily remove comments from our articles is advantageous to the Gather community. Actually, I'm doubtful that it is. We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out and affects the integrity of the comments.
This is to let you know that your content has reached at least 20 comments and therefore has been removed from I want it All
