Glory Be & top 'O The Day: The Boston Celtics are back baby and they're set to take over the East!
First and foremost, I'm a football fan (read PATRIOTS); secondly, thought they caused me great pain and sorrow for many years, I'm a baseball fan (read RED SOX); thirdly, though the days of Bobby Orr, Wayne Cashman and Ray Bourqe are long gone, I'm a hockey fan (read BRUINS); and alas dear laddies, I be a basketball fan too (read CELTICS). Funny that the most winningest New England franchise falls to fourth place on my list. The Celtics for three decades epitome the term DYNASTY. You can't dispute that. You can offer comparisons (the Yankees, the Canadiens, the Steelers and Forty-Niners), but you can't dispute the gregarious green history of the dynastic Celtics.
My oldest brother grew up with and honoring the likes of Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Bob Cousy, Tommy Heinsohn and Sam Jones. The baton was past to my generation in the sure-shooting hands of Dave Cowens, Paul Silas and JoJo White. And then my Celtics were truly born of angelic grace and talent. New England was indeed blessed by a parquet floor covered with the likes of Larry Bird, M L carr, Dennis Johnson, Bill Walton, Tiny Archibald, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish. They were great. The celtics were always great! Consider this, at one time in th sixties they had on their roster three future Hall-of-Famers, who, get this, WERE NOT even STARTERS. I'm not telling you their names, look it up; you may learn a little more Celtics lore in the process.
And then, as I approached my prime, the parquet floor darkened and was ripped to shreds. The heir-apparent to Bird, Len Bias dies of a drug overdose and Reggie Lewis succumbs to injury and illness. And the proud, proud green goes on a sabbatical of nearly two decades. Horror in beantown.
The sabbatical ended last night. In the biggest trade for one player in the history of the NBA, the Celtics have snagged Kevin Garnett and have placed him dead center between the newly acquired Ray Allen and disputedly the only Celtics star of the past fifteen years, Paul Pierce. So, a word of warning to all you other East coast, east conference cities; the Irish are back and they are ravenous. And in beantown today, lucky leprechauns come in three.
Happy St Paddy's, Daddy - put on the Green!

But when we talk football, let's talk about DA Bears. Who could forget this past season? I known chicago and chicagoans will not forget it, not to mention our fav's from the good ole days. Walter Payton, McMahon, Ditka, the fridge Perry. I know autumn must be around the corner, I am already writing about my team. But I already know who will win the superbowl this coming season. I will tell you now, but don't tell anyone.
The Patriots will win the Bowl this year.
But of course, you're right on this year. Must be your love for me. :+)
GO BUCKS !!
Basketball is a sport I almost never watch (never watched a whole game) and don't follow at all. Of course I do remember the legendary Bird man and his crew in white and green. My only problem with the Celtics is that everyone pronounces is Seltics when the actual word the team's name is taken from is pronounced Keltics. But I can overlook that.
I've always liked the Bruins since the time of Orr, Espo, Cashman, Bucyk, 'Pieface' McKenzie, Sanderson, Cheevers and the bunch that won two Stanley Cups and should have won four. They are kind of my second favourite NHL team. Canucks are first, of course.
The Patriots have been carrying the banner in New England recent year along with the Red Sox. Winning the World Series after, what, 89 years, was a dramatic moment in sports to be sure.
Check back with us in about 50 years when the Toronto Maple Leafs win their next Stanley Cup and the entire province of Ontario goes absolutely mental, sets fire to all its cars, riot in the streets but still show up on time for work the next day.
The article above penned nearly a year ago.
Now we wait on the Patriots.
Your loving Christian Cowboy Werewolf Poet & Photographer & PROPHET,
God saw the GREEN and said It Is good! God Bless!
I know nothing about sports :o(
I'll be glad to wish your Red Sox well, especially since I've given up on baseball since the MLB sabotaged the Expos.
When I used to watch basketball it was in the heyday of Micheal Jordan and Dennis Rodman. Now, I don't watch at all because after Micheal retired for the fiftieth time, frankly I got bored.
I switched my passion on to baseball where I loved the Cincinnati Reds, but, alas, they let me down as well. After Barry Larkin retired and they traded every good player they had, the team went down the drain.
Then, there's the Cincinnati Bengals who I thought had a chance..
And, then Palmer got injured and they have not been the same since.
It's like a curse has befallen Cincinnati and they can't get the old juice back.
But, I still watch football religiously, at least they don't lose every game like the Reds do every year.
Bengals at least made it the playoffs the year before.
I love them and always will.
Sorry, I can't share the love you have for your Celtics.
I don't watch that basketball hoopla anymore.
Gave ya a ten for Enthusiasm, though! :-)
