Another thing I notice is our rooms and boxes and storage sheds full of 'things' - people other places may have what's on their backs and that's all. Why do we need so many things? (I need to weed out my 'things' big time.)

Not only did you break my bubble, but my pipes started leaking tears when I read this to them. I know things aren't perfect, and we need to be aware of our water systems, but overall, I'd rather be here than anywhere.
It's easy to get conceited when you have an abundance or even just sufficient resources.
