The object here is friendship.  We can disagree and not attack.  If I am attacked, I relish the opportuntiy to hit back.  It's what I do best.  I always try to be nice first.  I give my opinions and you give yours.  If you don't like my opinion, just reply.  I've noted that suddenly all my articles have dropped in points.  Isn't it wonderful to know i scratched someone's blackboard.  Any, I am victim of a drive by point lowering.  Thanks for the compliment and we know who you are.  But we don't retaliate with points only words.  Thanks for the whine.

I just can't be myself without offending at least one person a day. And some people can't make it through a single day without being offended by SOMETHING. I just give up. If they want to go around being offended by stuff, then so be it. I'm willing to accommodate.

I just got a message from another person who is having the same problem today and was letting me know he was making some changes. I wonder if it is a mass attack, not a personal one against one person. Maybe take a poll there may be some sob just deciding to ruin many peoples day.

I like Janet B's solution. Catering to the sensibilities of others is a dead end street. Writing what you want racks up the only score that counts: the one you give yourself. Ummm, did you fart in the elevator? :)

This is getting to be a real pain in the a--. All I want to do is write and entertain. All this other BS just annoys me. But, people will be people and with the amount of people on Gather, well, who knows what goes through their brains?!

What an interesting view point Carol, drive bys are like vandalism.

I think we do seem t place maybe too much on the ratings. They mean nothing as far as Gather is concerned according to MaryAnne, who I spoke to last week concerning some issues, and to me, if that was all that they could do, then It would be fine. To me it is more like tossing a cigarette butt out. They know they should not, but they still do...

I dont worry or look at my ratings. I feel for you Carol. I know I have offended more than one person here. I say just be yourself and if someone doesnt like it they dont have to look at your stuff.

I agree with Sandra ~ Cloak of Peace ~ D., I come here to write, laugh, share my opinion. Sometimes I don't agree and I'll say my point. I respect others opinions and ask only that they respect mine.

People will be people. Some are nice, some are not, some can be moody and gather reflects those real life percentages real well.

Personally I don't follow my ratings. Maybe I should but that's not what I'm about.

(P.S. Who farted in the elevator? It wasn't me!)

You know what I realized? That the reason we get so tens obsessed is, in part (okay at least for me, I'd love to get more readers) because when you do the sort thing to look at non connection articles, it's good to be on the top rated list, and drive by ones shoot that totally out of the water, because so many people get all tens from their friends...

I wonder if Gather weighted it... say, if you had a 9.6 but 87 comments, you could still be on the highly rated page...

Or if they should just do away with the point part altogether.

The same thing happens to me, Carol. If I "scratch the BLACKboard", I get oned for a few days. I just laugh and cash my gather checks from all the visits to my articles.

It's wonderful to have firends. I rate everyone a 10. It's not the ratings; it's the pattern that I see. If I write something that is opinion, I get rated down. If I write something like how i grow watermelons, I get a 10's, but nobody reads it. I'll take my punishment. Write on! And don't forget to sleep tight.

I just write, it doesn't matter to me what rating I get. I can't let that type of thing bother me, it's more in life to worry about, rather than a rating on gather, just keep writing what your writing, because you want to and YOU enjoy it.

Carol, I wouldn't worry about the reatings. They truly don't make anything that is good any less so. I think what someone writes is far more importnat than any rating.
I enjoy your writing, and I didn't even know you could check your ratings. How do you do that?

How can you know who's doing it? Seems it's happening to everyone. I don't rate unless I really like an article - then it's a 10. The articles I don't care for, I usually don't finish reading or comment on.

But I agree with someone up above, ratings don't mean much to me.

Personally, I never rate any of the articles I read (my bad, I know) and I never look at my ratings. I figure they make about as much sense as the rankings on Amazon.com on my books. They can sell 1 copy of 1 book and it goes up over a million points.
]Anyway, Carol, just keep on being you. And controversy is sometimes the best way to get the attention of the people who both agree and disagree with you. How many copies of the Da Vinci Code do you think would have sold if the Catholic church hadn't gotten up in arms?
America! At least we have the right to agree to disagree. I might not agree with everything the gov't. does (boy, is THAT an understatment) but I can let my opinion be heard. The fact that nobody listens is another matter, but at least I feel better for having said it!
