Washington, DC-When participants of the inaugural 2008 Paralyzed Veterans' Golf Open tee off, they're not just aiming for a hole in one, but they are also helping severely disabled veterans transition back to the work force.
"This event supports our vocational rehabilitation programs," said Randy L. Pleva, Sr., national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America. "Because veterans with disabilities have historically low rates of employment, Paralyzed Veterans made a commitment to develop public-private partnerships that have equipped paralyzed job seekers with the skills they need to succeed in the workplace. Less than one year into the program, we have opened two voc-rehab centers and already placed qualified veterans in good jobs."
The inaugural Paralyzed Veterans Golf Open: Driving Ability and Access will tee off at Belle Haven Country Club on Monday, June 2. Registration opens at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch and a shotgun start at 12:15 p.m. The dinner and awards program commence at 6 p.m.
The tournament will draw paralyzed veterans, Members of Congress, senior Congressional staff, military and government officials and corporate leaders. A number of accomplished Washingtonians will also participate. Bo Jackson, the former two-sport professional athlete, will serve as master of ceremonies for the entire day.
Agility Defense & Government Services is the underwriting sponsor of the Paralyzed Veterans' Golf Open: Driving Ability and Access.
Belle Haven Country Club is located at 6023 Fort Hunt Road., Alexandria, VA.
