Question of the week.... Gas prices

With gas prices at $4.00 a gallon and beyond, have you changed your travel plans for the summer? What are your plans now?

I've dropped plans to go to the shore for a few days.

I was supposed to be the matron of honor at my best friends wedding in a few weeks but I just cannot afford to get to her place which is two states away. She is very understanding of the situation and ok with it all.

The gas alone would cost me an arm and a leg and I don't even have a few fingers to donate to the cause !!

Nope, can't do that, we are going to see my mom for her 80th birthday. Flying out in August.

I don't have any firm plans anyway, but do expect to do my usual camping, hunting, etc.

no real travel plans. Trying to stay local. I do have some business that I need to attend to in Vegas, so will probably add a few days onto the trip. But no real plans.

Gas can go up to $10 a gallon and it won't affect me. I didn't have any travel plans to begin with. I take public transit and they're actually lower their far from $1.25 (60 cents for those with a Medicare card) to $1.00 (50 cents with the card) because so many more people are taking the bus in my city now.

I didn't have any travel plans yet. But I'm sure I'll factor gas costs into whatever plans I do eventually make.

saw it for $4.19 regular and $4.89 for diesel.

Probably. I had planned on going to Pittsburgh this summer for a Gather gathering, and to see some relatives and to show my hubby around where I grew up. I had also planned on making 2 visits (beginning and end of summer) to see my mom in northern Michigan. I also had planned on making some weekend site seeing trips. The last item is definitely out. And I'll probably only make one trip to see my mom - maybe mid-summer.

We have major trips to visit our daughter planned for October and Christmas. We will probably drive to Florida for those, no matter what the price. (It makes me sick to think what it might be by then). That is to see our kid. As for any long weekends this summer, we've pretty much cancelled those...unless we opt to go to St. Louis which is only 100 miles away.

We were going to Arkansas this summer to see my parents and hubby's parents (haven't seen them in over 2 1/2 yrs.) and Nashville at Thanksgiving (to see our daughter's first home). Both of those are put on hold and it looks like we'll be staying home. Sucks!!!

I didn't have any summer plans when gas was "only" $3.00 a gallon; nothing has changed. Oops, yes something has ~ I rarely drive at all. Work. Home. That's it. Necessary errands are done on the way to and on the way from. I just flat can't and won't pay those prices.

Since we live on a lake, we stay here in summer. We might not have as much company or run the jet skis as often, though.

We don't really have any plans this summer that will take us very far from home. We're planning on going to the zoo a few times, but it's located in the same town that we go to when we shop anywhere off base anyway. It's less than five miles from one of the grocery stores we go to sometimes, so it won't cost much extra at all.

We already did our traveling for the year. My husband had 7 level school in Texas (we are stationed in North Dakota), so we couldn't cancel it. The Air Force paid for the travel expenses, though, and since my parents live right on the way (less than 50 miles off the highway my husband would have had to have taken anyway), my son and I got a free vacation out of the deal. We don't plan on going back again until Christmas 2009.

My summers are usually like any other time except for I get to go to the beach and swim. Thanks goodness I do not have a car so I am not affected by the car prices for driving to the beach. Instead I choose to walk every where or take the bus. I do not mind this because I have been doing it for more than a couple of years now. As for going away. I never really do that in the first place. I instead choose a great book a sunny park and lie down and watch the world go by as I am reading.

No I still plan on taking all the trips we were going to take.
Can't afford a trip. Haven't been anywhere in years anyway. On the brightside, neighborhood pools are going to be free this summer and I'm a bike ride away from one. The best event of summer is here in town anyway...Comfest in June!

We haven't changed our plans, not that we had big ones..... For long trips, we might rent a car that has a better MPG than our own, but we usually do this to avoid putting lots of miles on our cars anyway. (Step daughter works for Hertz, so we always get a good deal)

Only a few years ago, it was apx. $4.00 per 4 liters (apx one gallon) in most of Europe, reflecting non-subsidized real prices. Here in Copenhagen now, it is approaching $12.00 a gallon.

We havent really changed plans, just regular life on our end. We are eating out less, leisure shopping less, small changes. We are still doing vacations the same as always.

We're investing in metrocards so we can use the City Buses for a change-- the car will only be used in straight up emergencies this summer!

nope, still going to Gettysburg for the campaigner reenactment next month. I did get lucky and get all my classes done (I drove 55 miles one way) before the gas jumped up this spring/summer. This summer any driving I do is for me/us except for work (15 miles one way)

It's still $3.89 here today, but I never make plans for vacations anyway. Nor have I really taken one, ever.
I'm doing much less traveling than I did before the gas prices skyrocketed. I am seeing my family less, but at least I'm still able to communicate with them via email, phone, etc.

Had no plans before... Still that way now... Can't travel any less than that.
I've even turned in my parking placard at work for a bus pass.
