What was the original name of Memorial Day?

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day.

After World War II, the use of "Memorial Day" became more common, but was not declared the official name by Federal law until 1967

If any of you were around Gather last May, you know I hail from the village that's the official birthplace of Memorial Day; Waterloo, New York. I wrote extensively about this observance including the annual parade and provided many pictures including looks at the Memorial Day Museum. Alas, this year, not only due to my recent health problems, but due to the fact I have relocated, I won't be able to be 'home' to join my fellow villagers in this year's commemoration. Feel free to look through my archives to check out what it's like in the town that gave the nation a holiday.
