Very nice tribute. My dad was in WWII but he went in as a clean-up crew and didn't see any fighting. Lucky. I have some of his army pins and a picture of him right before he left for Italy. He died in November 00. I also miss him a lot.

What a great smile he has and I had to smile at that first photo, too, because I remember that type of vintage wallpaper. Such a sign of the times! You've written a lovely tribute here.

Thank you for allowing us all to see such a great man. My heart goes out to all who have veterans in there lifes and the people who have others who are fighting right now.

My sister has to go at the end of the year and is going to be there for a year.

Ahh, yes, daddy, I am with you Robyn. Lost my daddy 12/31/01. Very proud veteran Korean "conflict" USN, I believe 1955. Life member of VFW, PLAV, AMERICAN LEGION, and Chaplain for Downriver Veterans Honor Guard. Is so hard, as when the moment comes, it's not the man you knew for the last many years, but indeed, the daddy who took you fishing, told stories, and taught you to ride a bike. I think of and talk to him daily, seems so many times Ihave turned into his mini me. But his honor of country, patriotism, and most so, freedom always number one with him. We never didn't have a flag and flag pole everywhere we lived, and by 4 years old, not only were we each reading with our own library cards with his coaching, but we took turns, my siblings and I with flag detail each day. Sunrise better find it going up, down it must come if begins to rain. and down it comes before sunset, brought in and a another sibling recruited to help for this ritual down properly. It had to be folded in a perfect triangle with only the blue and the white stars visible on thethe outside, part with grommets tucked in and never ever was it to toch the floor. Got to tell you that kind of training never leaves you! And, he taught us most of all we had to honor all or our vets, past, present and future, and we indeed do, though have to admit I do not support the reasons they are there for or there commander in chief, that doesn't effect my going to them when I spot them shaking their hand and simply saying thank you. That will also never leave me. Such a recent loss for you, I send good karma allowing you and yours to celebrate all he we able to help in gdoning while on this earth, and, yes, even to talk to him, as I don mine then he is never gone from any of you.............
