Question of the Week...Summer Olympics

There is a lot of controversy surrounding the 2008 Summer Olympics being held in Beijing. What are your thoughts? Will you be supporting or boycotting the Olympics this summer?

I will not boycot them. I rarely watch them. Unless an event comes on that I am interested in. I have never been real big in to sports. Let alone watching sports.

I always support the Olympics no matter where they are and no matter what the politics of the host country. The Olympics are not about politics. They're about friendship, goodwill and good sportsmanship. Those who boycott the games have no clue about the meaning behind them...to attempt to bring the entire world a little bit closer.

China has been behaving in such an unfriendly manner and has done so much abuse to people and their human rights, including over the Olympics themselves, that I believe we shoild totally boycott them. I think our boycott of the Olympics in the Soviet Union was one more contribution to bringing down that evil empire, and we ought to do it again, for China is even more evil if that is possible!

I support the athletes and their efforts. I remember the Moscow Olympics and how that impacted so many athletes lives and careers.

I rarely watch complete events. But this year I can't watch any live, since I work during the day, Beijing time. Oh well.

I will not be buying anything that indicates it goes to support the INTERNATIONAL Olympic Committee, since I do not believe they made a good choice. China's "democratization" was barely in its infancy and there has been much backsliding.

Shame on them!

While I share deep concern over China's record of disrespect for human rights, I do not concur with the boycutting in an attempt to protest or influence China's behavior.
Once every two years almost all of the nations of the world meet in a competition of strategy, skill and expertise in sports—this is a time-honored event that has been defiled by the web of international Nations. It is not the place of the nations of the world to boycott the Olympics for political reasons. That is not the purpose of the Olympics.

If we let the Olympics stand for reconciliation, perhaps it would not be too idealistic to believe that the international games could bring international peace
