I've heard the term used before, but I never quite believed people could be so dumb. I never had the "honor" of bumping into one, or seen one. I tend to believe they are in the minority, but I might be wrong. Usually when I think about tinfoil hat democrats, I think about left-wing nuts sitting in their basements in their whitey-tighties in their tin-foil hats, spamming blog sites and emailing their congressmen and bashing radio talk show hosts etc...
Like I said, I've never had the luck to get a scolding from anyone like this until I joined gather. I put on my profile I'm a Navy veteran, and I post some articles about the war, veterans benefits, international news, presidential election etc... I've gotten quite a few hate mails since I started (I've gotten more praise and pats on the back though) and I am not used to it. It shouldn't piss me off that some nut-case calls me a baby-killer or a murderer, but I get ticked off anyway because if these people hate the US so much, why don't they move, do us both a favor. Also, these people have more sympathy for animals and terrorists than their own community, that's just plain wrong.
I just had to get this off my chest. And I'm sure I'll get more hate mail because of this. If this offends any left-wing nutcases, that is fine by me. But let me be clear, I don't hate democrats, just the nutcases. We have our own nutcases in the Republican party too, anyone on the far right or left usually has a few problems.

In real life, never met a "thin foil hat" liberal or right wing nutcase rep. Guess everyone behaves face to face. Nobody wants to be labeled. But when they go online, or call in that radio show, they let it out.
I once quoted Robert Reich on some economic projections, and got a hate e-mail from that. He called me a tool, and Robert Reich a dwarf. Normally, I respond with my usual foolishness, but I passed on that one.
Thank you for your service.
I too have been attacked and feel pretty much the same as you.
I am not an American, so I am neither Democrate or Republican.
But that doesn't stop people from giving me trouble for my opinion.
I find it hard to believe that you have received email through Gather.com by people accusing you of being a baby-killer or a murderer. Are you being a bit dramatic ?
Regarding: the name calling towards the military comes from the left 9 times out of 10
If this were actually the case, I would surmise it's due to those on the left are more prone to be pacifists who believe violence is not the answer to resolving problems.
Republicans who occupy the far right usually are gun-toting, militants who show bravado with zeal towards anyone who they surmise is weaker than them. basically the school yard bully type.
I'm sorry you feel that "the name calling towards the military comes from the left 9 times out of 10". Maybe that's just your experiences. My family loves when chickenhawks from the Right commends them for serving and, when asked about their own service, they stumble over the reasons why they couldn't serve.
And don't get us started on George W. (I was AWOL from the National Guard in '71) Bush and Dick (I got 4 deferments to keep me out of Viet Nam) Cheney.
But if we can get past labels and just get to know each other as people we'd probably all get along more. When I hear someone's a democrat, I get a bad feeling right away, but I shouldn't. I have some democrat friends and they usually have specific reasons for being that way and I even have a few democrat friends that are voting for McCain this time around. Its all mixed up.
And as far as being a bit dramatic about being name called, I AM NOT being dramatic. I Emailed Richard personally and told him about one of many people calling me names. I won't call them out on this open forum though. Also, I'm not as far right as many people think, I just hate big government. Thats the main reason I'm a republican.
