I was stationed in Bad Kreuznach & lved Weisbaden Germany for a couple years (ended in 1994) and I saw many places, most as a soldier, some as an honest to goodnesstourist.
Loved driving on the Autobahn, whether it was a military vehicle like a HMMWV (commonly referred to as a Humvee), a deuce and a half (2 1/2 ton truck) with a works shelter on the back or a more traditional automobile.
Saw lots of forests - field training exercises all year 'round! And lots of woodland camoflage to set up, along with a couple tents and large generators to keep fuled 7x24 so we could run our test sets to repair equipment as it came in.
I was often the sole female on site with 20+ men of varying ages. They were more uncomfortable with that than I was, really. They often set me up with a separate tent. Once I even had some kind of 4-legged visitor in the middle of the night. I have NO idea what it was - and I was not really anxious to find out either! I know when I thumped my feet on my cot I heard all four legs trying to get outta there and FAST!!!
I also went on a Rhine River tour - castles, towns, history and nice people every where!
Heidelberg castle is also amazing. Amazing how long things have lasted throughWorld Wars and the seiges of history
Loads of photos, with a film camera - someday those negatives will get scanned.
