I watched a documentary this morning on TV that was narrated by Dana Delany who played a nurse in the show China Beach which, when it was on, I was very much addicted to.
The stories these ladies told truly broke my heart. I think I cried through the whole show, but that's no surprise to those who know me well. I am way too tenderhearted, sometimes.
To my knowledge, there were no military nurses in my family during war time, and I would not even begin to understand what these women went through.
But I wish to post some links here that I found earlier today, in honor of those women and the doctors, who served as tirelessly as the men on the field and helped make sure that the many memorials and monuments across our nation were not double in size.
If you are a nurse, a veteran of a war, God bless you. Thank you for every tear you didn't shed, for every 20 hour shift, for all the blood and gore you faced every day, for every hand you held, and every wife, daughter, sister, or mother you pretended to be as men lay dying while there was nothing else you could do. I will always believe that there is a special place in Heaven for you.
And if you know a nurse who is a war veteran, take her flowers tomorrow, or Monday, or mow her lawn, or just simply give her a hug and say thank you.
God bless.
