The Blood

Gutters run red in a Baghdad street,

Staining anew the grey concrete,

As though someone spilled a cup,

Communion wine had filled it up,

Mixed with the blood of the lamb.

Wounds in his hands nailed to the tree,

A sacrifice for you and me,

The crimson drops fell to the stones,

Who knows the sin that he atones,

Washed with the blood of the lamb.

They say he lived and then he died,

That all our sins be justified,

We sin again – claim a righteous cause,

To make the world observe our laws,

Stained with the blood of the lamb.

Whose God is it that claims this price?

Demanding human sacrifice,

At an altar built of twisted lies,

With a descant sung of mothers’ cries,

Marked with the blood of the lamb.

Hopefully the terrorists keep up the good work so that you have material and the democrats have more misery to point to and politicize.

Yeah yeah, the Iraqi soccer team winning the Asia cup has positive news coming from Iraq and the democrats are biting their nails in hopes that the terrorists kill a bunch of people so the story ends SOON so that they can get back to their demogogery but we will see.

Younes Mahmoud is Captain of the Iraqi National FutBall Team. He scored the goal that lifted Iraq over Saudi Arabia to win the Asian Cup. The rabid right are pointing to that "positive story" out of Iraq as evident that the Surging Bush policy is working. Let's look at the "positive story" from Mr. Mahmoud's point of view.

He said, "I want the Americans out of Iraq." He also said, "I don't want the Iraqi people to be angry with me, but if I go back with the team, anybody could kill me or try to hurt me."

The celebrations in Baghdad killed at least 4 people as bullets fired into the sky fell to earth once again.

Excellent post and a soccer vicotry is a little good news for a bunch of folks that can use a little good news. I also feel that the victory is poor evidence that the Bush Administration "surge" is working. Let's face it the Bushies are looking for anything and everything to justify and support an unpopular war.

Jeff you are amazing. Desperate but amazing. So what's the surprise here? The Bush/Cheney/Rummy doctrine was if the Iraqis get miserable enough they'll want to be just like us and rise up and defeat the "bad guys." Good old personal responsibilty, the conservative mother's milk.

Reality is Petraus acting as any good Roman commander securing hot zones one at a time with overwhelming force, what Colin Powell, Shinseki and any other professional with brain advocated and lost his job for. So what? Sunni's walked out of the cabinet. Shia and Sunni cleric issued fatwas against any body voting for or supporting Bush's oil law. And it's still sucking billions a month out of our pockets and for what??

Sam I agree going in was a mistake. I just find it amazing that anytime news comes out that is positive and something good is finally happening the plug their ears and go "lalalalalala". You liberals WANT to have lost and for America to be worse off.

Failure is how you percieve it Jeff. Pursuing this disaster is failure in itself. How long must we endure this fiasco before government is manly, adult enough to correct the mistake? It is no dishonor for a Democratic nation to reverse course due to bad decision by elected officials ignoring all common sense and advice. It is a flaw in the system that the likes of Bush could get elected and have a Congress abdicating their oversight. This is the great danger of our times: Bush got elected. Ideological radicals corrupted the spirit and letter of law and American values and traditions. HOw this came about and how it must never happen again is the great charge of this generation and those to come.

Failure Jeff is not a military pullout from Iraq. Failure is the lack of courage to do so.

Whether the glass is half full or half empty depends on whether one is pouring or drinking. One cannot judge a glass without the context. My glass is usually half full, but then I am a Democrat and so am usually pouring. I have noticed that most usually Conservatives want to drink their fill without regard to filling other's glasses - thus, for them, the glass tends to be half empty.

Keith nice twist but I really don't see how democrats are the ones that are doing the pouring. They are the ones who think government is supposed to do everything for them at the expense of the hard working people.
