One story that I like to tell is when I had the opportunity to produce and evening with Shawn Phillips.
For those of you that don't know who he is then Google him- It might surprise you, but for me he was always someone whose music has always been a favorite for me.
He taught Beatle- George Harrison sitar, but I never knew of all the connections he had with some other great performers like Donovan and many many more.
We talked a lot and he has proven to be quite the philosopher and offered me valuable advice.
I have never been awe struck- meeting anyone its all the same, because people are just people and it matters not what position they have accomplished.
I feel they are no different than myself, but I really enjoy even love Shawn's music and never thought when I began playing guitar out in public that I would ever meet him.
The camera's were set up in front of the stage awaiting his performance and as producer I had that opportunity and went into the green room to meet him and discuss how we would produce the event.
He was courteous and congenial and I noticed right off the bat his Gibson Hummingbird guitar.
I used it as a starting conversation point.
He said look at it closely- it's a Gibson -Dove and he told me the story about how he got this guitar and then asked me if I played.
He then offered the guitar for me to play- after a minute he drew from another case an Ovation guitar and we had a chance to play music together.
That impressed me, because he was a role model for me and here I had this magical chance.
He was the quintessential professional and I have remained in contact with him to this day.
I only wish I would have had a cameras on us as we played together, because that would have been truly something to include in my archives.
I was able to preserve the concert and now click on the links and sit back and enjoy a classic time and concert.
Please welcome Shawn Phillips - 1988
