NKOTB...Help Settle A Bet

So I can admit listening to New Kids On The Block when I was real young, but remember at my elementary school they went real un-cool real quick.  So with that said, the other day I heard about this New Kids On The Block reunion when I was waking up to the Today Show.  To be honest, I thought I heard wrong.

When I came into work that morning, at the first meeting of the day with the other members of the Member Experience Team, the reunion came up.  Honestly, I thought it was a joke.  I thought we would all get good laugh out of it.  Apparently I was way off.  Everybody was really excited and was asking me what I thought people on Gather would feel about it.  I thought nothing but everyone in the room disagreed.  So now I have a score to settle...

DO YOU CARE ABOUT A NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK REUNION?

DO YOU FEEL LIKE ME AND THINK NOTHING OF IT?

Why is it I had to correct my girlfriend about the whole Donnie/ Marky angle? Some people have no memories.

I think it's pretty much the same as the Spice Girls reunion tour, but instead of aging ladies that can hardly sing, you've got even older men folk.

Yeah, we'll see which one grosses more.

I took theKid to a NKOTB concert at the Kingdome for her birthday one year. At the end of the show when it was time for the obligatory encore, the moms all lit Bics as a demonstration of how it should be done. The screaming girls just looked embarrassed, which seemed like a fair tradeoff for us having to take them in the first place. Now they just use cellphones to get an encore. The only reason I care at all about the reunion is that it reminds me of how long ago that concert was. I. Feel. So. Old. sigh

I had one tape because one of my friends gave it to me and I have no idea what songs were on that tape. I honestly can't name a single song.

I'm pretty skeptical that it's going to be any good . . . Joey McIntyre and Jordan Knight tried making a comeback a while back with solo careers but ended up being pretty horrible! Plus, the Spice Girls tried having a reunion a little while ago and look what happened . . . It bombed big time! I suggest they just let sleeping dog lie and retire!

Ummm excuse me!!! lol I posted an article about this a few weeks ago and got made fun of :( It doesnt bother me though. NKOTB were a HUGE part of my life when I was younger and I owned EVRYTHING that came out that had to do with them. I think its awesome they are coming back and I even still have all my NKOTB stuff. And I like to put in the NKOTB cd and cruise with it loud and sing along with my kids and laugh. Now please dont misunderstand....I by no means go around listening to them on a daily basis and dont say they are my favorite now. I just love re-living those fun younger years with my kids now. Ok I said my peace and I can be an open NKOTB fan!!!!!!!!!! haha Have a good day!

I was in love with Donny... even then I picked the 'bad boy' out of the bunch.

Then of course Donny's brother Marky Mark came on to the music scene (should I really call 'Good Vibrations' music though?) and my infatuation with Donny was over. I STILL love Mark Wahlberg to this day... he is quite the looker and not a bad little actor too.

I'm actually pretty interested in the reunion, but I follow any celebrity gossip.

A friend of mine just sent me a snippet of their new song...just awful! It's some electro-pop sounding mess.

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone...looks like I was right. If the comments stay like this I will surely have some bragging rights around the office :-)

Mark Wahlberg was in the original NKOTB lineup, but quit because he thought it was too much of a pop sound.

I loved Donnie Wahlberg! I'm with you Faith...I couldn't resist the "bad boy", even in grade school.

New Kids on the Block are actually from the neighborhood I was born in, Dorchester (in Boston). There is a convenience store named "New Store on the Block" that has gotten funnier to look at over the years, since it is just such a stupid. dated name. I wonder if this store will profit from the new buzz generated by NKOTB.
Mark Wahlberg is pretty cool. I was painting a mural as a teenager and he drove by and popped his head out the window "Nice work kids"
and he donates time and money to the local boys and girls club.
But I was totally oblivious to pop culture growing up. I think I finally got my first radio at age 14 and NKOTB had come and gone.

oh, and for my thoughts on the reunion... I think it will be short lived, and is typical of our culture. All the movies and music and entertainment is dictated by big budgets. Very rarely is something interesting and original promoted, too much financial risk. All I see advertised are remake movies, reality TV manufactured stars and various retro reunions... I mean not ALL I see, but just look at how uninteresting film has gotten. Garfield the movie? Pink Panther remake? Curious George the movie? Another comic book trilogy? What will the big brains of hollywood come up with next? I just can't wait!!!
So in essence, I think it is sad. But then again I never was a fan, so I don't have nostalgia power swaying me.

I was a huge fan of them back in high school when their campy, bubble gum music and dance moves were cool and of that time. However, seeing them now on the Today Show, doing the exact same moves - not cool. If they sang their old songs but at least moved with the times, maybe they wouldn't have come off like an Andy Samberg bit from Saturday Night Live. I felt like I was watching one of his Digital Shorts. Even their new song "Summertime" is awful and totally dated.
