I am a home school mom and I am concerned about what is happening in California. I received the following message in an email and I thought that I would pass it along to all of my gather friends. There is a petition to sign if you are interested in supporting home schoolers in California. Remember it could happen anywhere. There is one distrubing part in the email that states "parents do not have a constitutioinal right to homeschool their children".
Hi All, If you have not all ready done so I'm asking that everyone go
to the Homeschooling Legal Defense website: http://www.hslda.org/ and
sign the petition reguarding the ruling in California.
They have set a frightening precedent by ruling that only parents with
a teaching certificates may homeschool.
One appelate stated "parents do not have a constitutional right to
homeschool their children."
I say we do our best to let them know otherwise.

The statement about the Constitution is correct, unfortunately. There's no specific Constitutional ammendment guaranteeing the right to self-school one's children. *sigh*
seriously, they could use the money saved to hire a teacher to visit and look at lesson plans...
I bet the motive is to get more money for the schools
I'd urge folks to read Melissa Wiley's blog, especially stuff from last week:

I did take a look at Melissa Wiley's blog and I am certainly glad that Homebody E sent put the link in for us all to enjoy. Thank you Homebody E.
I do disagree that home schoolers should be certified. Actually that would depend on what the certification involves. If the price of getting certified is expensive then only wealthy families would be able to home school their children.
Thank you all for your wonderful comments!
The statistics and above-average performance of most homeschoolers speak for themselves, I do believe. Certification is not necessary.
